SNK’s Fatal Fury series began in 1991 as part of the fighting game boom that dominated arcades around the world, and its popularity led to the release of several games in the 1990s. These classic games have since been ported to consoles, but there hasn’t been a fresh entry in the series since 1999.
That is, until now. The series returns with Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves in 2025, ending a 26-year drought without a fresh title. It will feature the return of characters from previous games, most notably series star Terry Bogard and his protégé Rock Howard. Other fan favorites such as Mai Shiranui and Billy Kane will also be included and receive updated designs.
City of the Wolves will be a sequel to the previous game in the series, Garou: Mark of the Wolves. The TOP system, now called the SPG system, is back. It allows you to select a portion of your health bar (beginning, middle, or end), and when your health is within that range, your SPG will activate.
When your SPG is busy, you will regenerate health, escalate your attack power, your power meter will fill faster, your REV meter will fill slower, and you will be able to perform REV strikes. These last two points are part of an vital fresh mechanic in the City of Wolves called the REV System. REV Strikes combine attack and defense, allowing you to deliver powerful blows while repelling enemy attacks.
You can chain them after REV Arts, which can be used after a special move to perform a stronger version of that move. REV Guard is a unique type of block that creates more space between you and your opponent than a regular block, and also eliminates chip damage from special attacks.

All these actions escalate the REV meter in the lower left corner of the screen, and when the meter fills up, overheating will occur. While in this state, you will no longer be able to utilize the REV action and your guard meter will decrease whenever you block attacks. If the gauge depletes, your shield will be crushed and you will need more time to recover from the impact.
Your REV meter slowly decreases over time and as you approach or dash towards an enemy, launch an attack, or successfully utilize Just Defense or Hyper Defense. The former is when you block an attack at exactly the right moment, while the latter is when you make a forward attack at exactly the right moment in a multi-hit attack.

This REV system adds a layer of strategy to each fight because you can’t just utilize powerful REV actions over and over again. You’ll need to pay attention to your REV Meter and balance an aggressive attack with a well-organized defense to avoid overheating.
For the first time in the series, you’ll also be able to choose between two different control schemes that will determine which buttons you’ll need to perform each of these moves. Known as Arcade Style and Smart Style, they are designed to provide options for players experienced in the series as well as newcomers starting their adventure with the series.
