Yellow Brick Games has announced that an Eternal Strands PC demo will be available on Steam on January 21, giving you a taste of their magic-filled action-adventure game one week before its full release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on January 28 – it will also be the first day on some Game Pass tiers.

However, there is no information yet whether the demo version will also appear on consoles the team responded to the inquiry about it by saying, “Steer just for a while,” implying that it is possible.

In Eternal Strands, players will take on the role of Brynn, a youthful Weaver who seeks to reclaim the cultural home of her people and fights against enemies using a combination of magical abilities and weapons. However, the core of this is the thermodynamic layer woven throughout the game world, allowing the elemental employ of fire and ice to be applied to the environment to great effect.

Heat will spread, chilly will cold, and real-time destruction goes hand in hand with telekinetic powers. For example, you can set a tree on fire and then tear it out of the ground and throw it at enemies using Brynn’s telekinesis. Alternatively, you can throw a magical ice wall to block incoming attacks, or fill her sword with flames to float on enemies.

Brynn is also naturally mobile, allowing her to take on giant enemies that must be climbed, armor broken to expose delicate spots, frozen to limit mobility, burned to clear fur, and more to defeat. Of course, magic will also be useful in navigating the fantastic city.

This all adds up to a rather intriguing additional layer to the action-adventure formula, bringing greater interactivity and emerging reactivity to the game. This is definitely worth keeping an eye out for later this month as it’s one of the earliest releases of the year.
