Secret details about the operation of key European military assets have once again been leaked onto the Internet via War Thunder message boards, one of many similar leaks about various weapons systems over the years. It is unclear what risk, if any, the leak poses to countries that deploy the system in combat. Publisher Gaijin Entertainment’s community moderator has once again asked fans not to reveal military secrets on the game’s forums.
The plane in question, the $124 million Eurofighter Typhoon, is flown by pilots from many NATO countries, including Great Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain. It is also relatively recent, having first entered service in 2003. The multi-role aircraft is capable of hitting both air and ground targets, and representatives of the United States Air Force he compared its role to that of the F/A-22 Raptor. It also has a really fancy radar system that War Thunder fans argued. To prove his point, someone posted secret information, a risky move that got him banned from the forums.
This is at least the fourth time that secret details of Typhoon were leaked online War Thunder forums. The leaks were previously believed to have covered the entire 750-page aircraft manual.
A detailed post by the same community manager from June provides even more information for potential posters, clearly stating that documents deemed secret, confidential or secret should never be posted on the forums of the free vehicular combat simulator built by Gaijin, a company formerly based in Moscow.
As noted above, this is not an unusual occurrence for Gaijin War Thunder. The Steam post reported dozens of similar incidents, including the 2022 Chinese Secrets leak. But are these leaks really perilous for the military? It depends on who you ask. Military fan site Sandboxx in a comprehensive edition full-length story summarizing each of these leaks, he states that the Western media is simply hyped up the situation too much.
