Last night at the Game AwardsSaber Interactive and Universal Studios revealed Turok: Beginningsa third-person cooperative shooter, which is the first up-to-date installment of the series since 2019. Beginnings it doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s being developed by the same studio that created the fantastic game Space Marine 2.
On December 12 during (better than expected) Game Awards 2024, Turok: Beginnings was officially unveiled in an amazing trailer featuring pre-rendered cinematic action and actual gameplay. Here’s a trailer that you might have missed if you watched it because it got a bit buried underneath it all Other great discoveries of the night.
If you are prick fan like me, after watching this trailer you probably asked yourself a similar question: Wait, this is a third-person shooter? And yes, it is true. In a up-to-date post on Official PlayStation BlogSaber Interactive game director Jesus Iglesias explained why they decided to switch to a third-person perspective, considering that the classic series is mainly known as an FPS series.
“We are all huge fans of the previous games and the series as a whole,” Iglesias said. “But ultimately we wanted to explore a different direction than before prick titles.”
“Saber has a rich history of creating third-person shooters, and our experience in this space gives us a unique opportunity to grow the series while maintaining the familiar elements that make a great game prick experience. We have created a fresh approach to the classic prick a franchise that will appeal to both old and new fans.”
I think it makes sense that Saber Interactive, that had previously developed World War Z and this year’s is well rated Space Marine 2 (both third-person shooters), would go in that direction prickbut it still seems weird to me. However, I loved it Space Marine 2so I’m still excited to play Turok: Beginnings.
As for how this is the latest prick ties to a larger franchise, Saber Interactive isn’t ready to say yet, but suggests it will have some ties. Iglesias also confirmed this Turok: Beginnings supports cooperation, e.g Space Marine 2you can also play it solo.
The switch to the third-person perspective is unexpected, but I suspect that fans will be more open to this installment of the series than to the last novelty, a cute isometric action game from 2019 Turok: Escape from the Lost Valley.
