The creator of The Witcher 3 congratulated the creator of Elden Ring after the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion overtook Blood and Wine to become the best-rated expansion in history.
At the time of this article’s publication, Shadow of the Erdtree had Metascore 95while The Witcher 3 Blood and Wine expansion is currently on the platform Metascore 92.
IGN’s review of Shadow of the Erdtree gave it a 10/10. We said: “Like the base game before it, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree raises the bar for single-player DLC expansions. It takes everything that made the base game such a groundbreaking RPG, condenses it into a relatively compact 20-25 hour campaign, and provides fantastic new challenges for heavily invested fans.”
Blood and Wine, which was released in 2016, received a rating of 9/10. We said: “Geralt gets a fitting sendoff in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine, thanks to a strong cast and new items.”
In a tweet, CD Projekt congratulated Elden Ring developer FromSoftware on the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, and even pointed out that its own team is preparing for its release today, June 21.
“For the past eight years, The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine has had the honor of being the top-rated RPG expansion,” CD Projekt said, “but now @ELDENRING can wear that crown. Congratulations to the entire @fromsoftware_pr team for their great work!”

The tweet about the CD Projekt team preparing for the release of Shadow of the Erdtree is, of course, a reference to the requirements that must be met to gain access to the expansion in the basic version of the game – players must select a few undiscovered feats in advance, including defeating an optional boss.
IGN’s guide to how to prepare for the Shadow of Erdtree however, it is fully up to date and has everything you need, so be sure to check it out our interactive Elden Ring map to make sure you don’t miss any vital collectibles.
As for The Witcher 3, CD Projekt is working on another game set in the fantasy universe, codenamed Polaris, but it will be released only Absolutely 2025 at the earliest, and probably later. There are also two other Witcher games on the horizon, including remake of the original Witcher AND multiplayer spin-off.
