The Nintendo Switch console, announced in 2016, generated a lot of hype. Nintendo fans can exploit the console to play on their TV and take it with them on the go! Moreover, the improved mobile device can run larger games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild AND The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Due to features like these, the Nintendo Switch later became one of my favorite consoles of all time… but it’s also a bit uninteresting.
It has a basic user interface that gives users the option to choose between a black or white menu design. The Switch had a little mascot named Amelia Nbut her relationship with the console was short-lived. The most personality Nintendo ever gave us were Joy-Cons in cute pastel colors. I appreciated this, but it wasn’t enough to give the console the sense of character and fantasy that I loved in previous Nintendo consoles.
Looking ahead, I hope the Switch 2 has at least one feature that makes it feel less spotless. I especially feel this because some of the Nintendo Switch’s main competitors, like the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally, are clunky monsters with all-black or all-white hardware.
This could be a strange hardware trick or some other aspect of the software that is unique to the console. Hell, give me one cute jingle that plays at some point while using the console and I’ll be ecstatic. I just want to believe that Nintendo can still make something that’s even a little bit goofy.
