In my experience, Labor Day sales usually leave video games out. But for some reason, most of the games I was looking forward to are at their lowest prices before Labor Day weekend. In fact, I’m seeing better deals on the Switch right now than anything I could find during Prime Day earlier this year. If you’re like me and have been waiting for Tears of the Kingdom or the fresh Mario Kart, now might be the time to do so.

Almost the entire lineup of current Mario games for Switch are on sale at one retailer or another. My favorite is the beloved co-op platformer Super Mario Bros. Wonder, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Maker 2, and Mario Party Superstars are all marked down during Walmart’s Labor Day sale. The Animal Crossing series is a mainstay of the cozy gaming community, but New Horizons is one of those early Nintendo titles that is almost never available for purchase. In fact, it wasn’t available for sale on Amazon from 2022. So $10 off may not seem like the biggest deal, but it’s probably the best AC:NH deal we’ll see this year. If you’re looking to start collecting bugs, decorating your island, and most importantly, paying your dues to Tom Nook, now’s the time.

Is it worth waiting for the release of Nintendo Switch 2?
We’ve been hearing rumors about the Switch 2 for a few years now, with the rumored console hitting shelves in 2025. Nintendo hasn’t confirmed anything about the console, including whether it’ll be backward compatible with original Switch games. That said, there’s a long list of Switch games coming that I’m personally still waiting for. If you don’t have a Switch yet, you might want to consider holding off on buying one until you upgrade (though Walmart has some great deals on Switch consoles for those who can’t resist). Otherwise, Nintendo’s current console supports some great games that are always worth playing.
