The best archetypes for each team member in Metaphor: ReFantazio

Published:

Each party member has “the best archetype” IN Metaphor: ReFantasiaalthough the game clearly wants you to experiment with your own combinations. However, the so-called system Royal archetypes starts at the end of the story and almost requires you to spend the entire game pushing each character in a certain direction if you want to unlock them in time to defeat the final boss.

The good news is that these Royal Archetypes are extremely powerful and worth the effort to unlock them.

We will break it down below best archetypes for each team member in Metaphor: ReFantasia (including the main character). There are plenty spoilers for all job families, Royal Archetype positions, and late-game teammates below, so scroll at your own risk.

The best archetypes for the main character

Unlike other heroes who will travel with you in Metaphor: ReFantasiathe hero will unlock his Royal Archetype – the Prince – through the story. This will also unlock the ability to study Royal Archetypes for other party members, although they will have to work for it.

Because you will naturally unlock the Royal Prince archetypefor most of the game you can learn whatever you want. Still, we had a lot of success pushing our hero down more magical and healing paths because he can’t be removed from the party and these types of Archetypes are always useful.

As you progress through the game, consider the five families of hero archetypes:

  • Prospector
  • Healer
  • Mag
  • Merchant
  • Gunner

Strohl’s best archetypes

Strohl starts as a Warrior and has quite a lot of strength. For this reason, it is ideal for high physical damage archetypes such as Brawler. However, Strohl’s ideal role limits him somewhat, as some enemies require more than just a acute blade. Merchant is a good addition to his kit to support boost his luck and give him the all-important Gold Attack, but Commander is really where Strohl shines outside of his Warrior house, as he’ll learn a ton of support skills that can make him invaluable in some battles final.

When thinking about his royal archetype, you want to focus on the warrior and commander as The Royal Warrior job requires Samurai 20, Lord 20, and 30,000 MAG unlock.

As you progress through the game, consider these four families of Strohl archetypes:

  • Warrior
  • Commander
  • Merchant
  • Adventurer

The best archetypes for Hulkenberg

Hulkenberg is a rather strange member of the party Metaphorbecause to make her the best tank she can be, you also need to invest heavily in magic. To unlock the Magic Knight – and therefore the rest of the Knight line – you must teach Hulkenberg the Mage Archetype. The tank and magic user theme – usually opposing ideas in this type of game – will follow Hulkenberg all the way to her Royal Knight Archetype at the end of the game.

Royal Knight requires Paladin 20, Dark Knight 15, Elemental Master 15, and 30,000 MAG. If you want her to eventually learn to become a Royal Knight, make sure you keep her on the Knight or Mage path basically constantly, as she has plenty of XP to gain before the game ends, considering there are four positions in each of these families .

As you progress through the game, consider these four families of Hulkenberg archetypes:

  • Knight
  • Mag
  • Commander
  • Healer

The best archetypes for Heismay

Heismay is truly a go-getter when it comes to getting the job done. In fact, to get the Royal Archetype of Heismaya, you’ll need to invest in more bounties than any of your other party members. So unless you want to spend all your endgame XP on Heismay, you’ll need to be very disciplined to get it to where it needs to be, the King’s Thief.

Royal Thief requires Ninja 20, Dragoon 15, Tycoon 15 and 30,000 MAG. What makes this arduous is that you need to master at least one Archetype in the Seeker, Knight, and Commander trees to get to the high-level positions in the Thief, Marksman, and Merchant trees. While you can quite easily take on some Archetypes to gain key skills with other characters, try to avoid this especially with Heismay as he needs a ton of Archetypal XP to achieve his goal.

As you progress through the game, stick to these six archetype families for Heismay:

  • Thief
  • Gunner
  • Merchant
  • Prospector
  • Knight
  • Commander

The best archetypes for Junah

As the first of the last three members of the team, Junah feels a little more relaxed at work. You’ll start with her advanced Masked Dancer job and won’t need the same prerequisites to unlock her as other characters. So ideally, I would just put her in the Fake and Masked Dancer tree for the rest of the game.

The Royal Masked Dancer requires Persona Master 20, Trickster 20 and 30,000 MAG. This means that the only obstacle to Junah’s final Archetype is the Follower’s level of bond with Junah herself and Alonzo. Make sure you prioritize these tasks early on so that Junah doesn’t get blocked from doing more advanced tasks for too long. If you’re low on Junah’s XP, consider further developing her magic skills in Mage mode or her rogue skills in Ninja mode.

As you progress through the game, consider these four families of Junah archetypes:

  • Masked Dancer
  • Counterfeiter
  • Mag
  • Thief

The best archetypes for Eupha

Eupha is the penultimate party member you will unlock Metaphorand really only requires the level of two trees: Royal Summoner requires Devil Summoner 20, Soul Hacker 20 and 30,000 MAG. This means you just need to work on the extremely powerful Euphy Summoner job and your starting job, Seeker.

The only real obstacle you must overcome to obtain Euphy’s ultimate Archetype is her bond level with the Follower. What’s tricky about this though is how tardy in the game you get Eupha. Once you pick her up, you won’t have much free time until the final stage of the game, so you’ll likely be stuck with her at a low Follower level for hours of story content. Try to establish a Watcher bond with her as soon as possible once you have some precious free time in the endgame.

As you progress through the game, consider these four families of Euphy archetypes:

The best archetypes for Basilio

Being the last party member you unlock, Basilio only requires mastery of the five Archetype professions to reach his final form. But that’s actually one job more than his other two endgame companions, Eupha and Junah. Royal Berserker requires Destroyer 20, Martial Artist 20 and 30,000 MAGwhich is a bit of a problem in terms of the amount of raw XP required compared to the amount of stuff you’ll have to do in the last few weeks of the game.

There are plenty of end-game dungeons to drag Basilio through before the final boss fight so you can unlock the Royal Berserker, but you also need to make the most of his bond with the Followers (which is the last bond you’ll make) and Catherina’s bond, which isn’t available to visiting regularly until almost the end of the game. To support Basilio get where you want to go, make sure you prioritize spending time with him and Catherina, and also save up some XP fruit to support him in a few quests.

As you progress through the game, consider these four families of Basilio archetypes:

  • Berserker
  • Adventurer
  • Knight
  • Warrior

Then see how to unlock all the archetypes and followers, how to raise Eloquence, and how to see all the endings.
