The ‘Alien: Romulus’ director hopes to “discover things you’ve never seen before” in the sequel, but if more aliens appear in the series, I have bad news for him

The sequel to Alien: Romulus was confirmed a while back, and it looks like director Fede Alvarex is hoping to do something different with it.

When Alien: Romulus hit theaters last year, it was met with quite mixed reactions. Audiences generally responded well to the series, but critics were less impressed, although there were many fans of the series who weren’t sold on it either. Criticisms included, for example, the over-reliance on earlier installments in the series and Ian Holmes’ terrible CGI (which was slightly improved for the home release). However, all this doesn’t really matter when the box office results are good, and Alien: Romulus did very well there, ensuring continuity. Now in an interview for Empiredirector Fede Alvarez teased his ideas for the sequel, saying he wanted to go to “a place in the Alien franchise that we’ve never been to before.”

That doesn’t mean, however, that Alvarez doesn’t remain cautious and notes that the sequels were made just for him. “The mistake that usually comes with sequels is that we just make them because we can, and with the success of Romulus we can certainly make a sequel,” he said. “But I wouldn’t do it unless we had a really good idea for it, something worthy of the title.”

Whether this turns out to be a worthy sequel we probably won’t find out for a while, but let’s hope they don’t bring back another dead actor for the sake of nostalgia points. Plus you can’t just throw another weird alien in there, that’s what’s happened in every Alien movie since the first one.
