Thanks to Nintendo Switch 2 GameChat, you can now apply this Android phone as a webcam

Adding a proper chat system to Nintendo Switch2 it is a godsend, but it is not perfect. We still have a long way to go before we achieve the simplicity of partying on PS5 or Xbox. However, if you don’t like using your webcam while gaming with friends, the good news is that Nintendo’s dedicated accessory is ready to be retired. Thanks to the latest update to Google Pixel devices, you can turn your phone into a high-quality alternative.

You may remember that the June Nintendo Switch 2 update will allow players to apply different webcams. This mainly applies to common accessories like those you plug into your laptop, desktop, or even notebook computer. Nintendo’s first update also includes support for a wide range of Logitech and Razer products. Now you can pair your Google Pixel with your console and you don’t even need any third-party apps to do so.

With Android 14, many of the top Google Pixel phones have received an update that makes standard webcams compatible with the device. However, the latest version of Android 16 appears to have completely resolved any previous issues that prevented Pixel phones from pairing with the Nintendo Switch 2. It’s unclear whether Android or Nintendo was the first to intervene with firmware updates, but veteran gamers are already highlighting the change.

How Android authorities most importantly, you only need USB-C for this. Really, it’s that plain. Currently, Google Pixel phones are the only Android mobile phones that apply this feature. I hope it becomes widely available as I would love to apply my Nothing Phone (3a) Pro with Nintendo Switch 2 GameChat. But what about iOS users? I’m afraid it’s not that plain, at least not yet.

If you want to pair your iPhone or even iPad with the Nintendo Switch 2, there are many hurdles to overcome. We’re talking about third-party apps, fiddling with settings, and a whole host of other things that aren’t really worth the effort. However, the platform is still teenage, so someone has plenty of time to find a better solution. Or maybe Apple can just step in and make things easier, but there’s a better chance that Fortnite will show up properly in the App Store.

When it comes to Nintendo’s own accessory, it’s a mixed bag. You can read our Nintendo Switch 2 camera review to see how it performs. Alternatively, check out our guide to the best Nintendo Switch 2 cameras.
