The survival game that just won’t stop is pushing its next huge update a little further. Terraria 1.4.5 has been in development for over two years and has only recently been in development Game status updatedeveloper Re-Logic said it is almost finished but will not be released in 2024.
“Work on the final lists for each development team member is nearing completion, which is a great measure of progress. Still, we’re pretty sure there’s no way we’ll see Terraria 1.4.5 released this year.” – wrote Ted “Loki” Murphy from Re-Logic.
Long story miniature: the final touches to the patch are taking longer than expected, and instead of asking the team to work through the holidays to set an “arbitrary deadline,” the studio has decided to release version 1.4.5 when everything is ready in 2025.
“We’re sure this won’t be welcome news to many, but we still want to be a quality studio, so we’ll take the time necessary to make sure each update is just ‘just right’… and we feel that once an update is available, everyone will appreciate this time and care,” Murphy continued. “I’m sorry it’s taking so long, but it will be worth it.”
Terraria fans are certainly a patient bunch, but this game has been a long wait. Re-Logic first announced the update in 2022 and back then the team was confident it would arrive sometime in 2023 (lol).
I suppose when you make a hugely successful indie game backed by goodwill, a energetic community, and a hearty modding scene (Stardew Valley is in a similar boat), no one really minds when official updates take much longer than planned. This is especially true for Terraria, whose longtime fans must believe they’re playing with house money at this point – it’s been over four years since Re-Logic released what was supposed to be the “last” major update to its 2011 survival game. but it still sold so well that the studio kept it up.
Re-Logic hasn’t left fans empty-handed in 2024, however: an embedded gif in the blog post reveals that in version 1.4.5 you can plant trees by throwing acorns. Tidy.
