Techland is removing Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition from sale in September 2024, promising for the first time ever that every owner of the game will have access to Dying Light: The Beast for free.
In the post on X/TwitterTechland has revealed that the Ultimate Edition will be discontinued on September 30, 2024. Anyone who already owns it, or purchases or upgrades before that date, will retain all the features and benefits, including the free version of The Beast.
This is an upcoming four-player co-op game that is more of a first-person shooter than a survival horror game. It was originally developed as the highly anticipated “Story DLC 2” for Dying Light 2 before becoming a standalone project.
Dying Light 2’s Ultimate Edition priced at $99.99 was supposed to include this story DLC 2, but since this additional content has become the full game, players will receive it for free.
“Dying Light: The Beast is a full, standalone adventure that began life as DLC 2,” Techland said on X/Twitter. “As such, it will be available to all Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition owners at no additional cost. We thank you for your patience and hope you enjoy what we’re preparing.”
The offer is apparently intended for those who originally purchased the Ultimate Edition and can’t wait for the second story DLC, rather than simply being a gift to every fan of the series.
It’s unclear how much The Beast will cost, though Techland’s press release originally stated it would be $39.99, before the company later said that was incorrect. The Ultimate Edition upgrade, meanwhile, will cost $35.
In our review of the latest game, IGN stated, “Dying Light 2 Stay Human is an ambitious zombie action adventure filled with top-notch parkour, a stunning open world, and every heartbreaking bug in the book.” That was before Techland issued countless patches.
