Sword of Convallaria Tier List – All Characters Ranking

Convallaria’s Sword trying to do Gacha differently.

The game aims to combine the best elements of classic Final Fantasy with charming pixel art strategy gameplay and a soundtrack by Tactics Ogre music producer Hitoshi Sakimoto, with a branching story full of meaningful narrative decisions that change the fate of Voyager, its allies, and the surrounding land of Iria.

It doesn’t feel as derivative as other Gacha games, but that doesn’t mean it’s skimping on content—quite the opposite, in fact. Developer XD has said the sprawling story spans a whopping 120 hours, and at launch, there will be a whopping 67 characters to collect worldwide (not counting Voyager, the playable lead character).

But that’s not all. Sword of Convallaria also tries to approach the characters you recruit with distinctly different skills, power levels, and skill ranks to create builds, as well as weapons, gear, and trinkets to equip.

That’s a lot to take in, so to support you understand what characters you have on your team and what cards to roll, we’ve created this Sword of Convallaria tier list based on media previews, developers, and launch impressions.

Why are these Sword of Convallaria characters the best?

Start Banner Signs

Can you believe that most of the legendary characters on the launch banners are also the best in the game? It’s almost like XD did this on purpose to tempt players with some of their most stimulating designs?

Pass she is an arch-assassin who can sneak up behind enemies and finish them off without a second thought before taking the opportunity to act again the same turn. She also has a powerful self-heal that turns her concealed to avoid damage, and her leader passive gives her direct damage, defense, and a critical buff to any ally “Alacrity” (a category that includes other popular champions like Rawiyah, Faycal, Nungal, and LilyWill).

Next is Gloriawho is an extremely powerful buff character who gives her close allies bonuses to damage, movement, and defense without sacrificing her own damage. Based on her Flag Waving aura, which automatically activates at the start of battle, she gains access to a range of very powerful AoE attacks that transition into single-target weighty attacks when the aura wears off. Roll the dice for Gloria – just do it.

Beryllium is another frosty Destroyer class character that deals massive area damage, high damage, and offers decent utility with self-buffs and a little healing at a decent range. There are other magic-wielding characters in Sword of Convallaria, but none of them can do the same job as Beryl – and definitely not as explosively as she does.

At last, Dantalion is a damage machine that combines melee and magic attacks to rush enemies and stop them from healing. He has great crowd control with some powerful AoEs and his leader skills stack with a lot of powerful and basic to get characters like Faycal, Maitha, Inanna, Magnus and Rawiyah. Dantalion is another character I recommend because he stacks so well with others.

Magnus and Inanna

What I will say about the above banner characters is that they are all offensively oriented characters with the classic glass cannon combination of incredibly powerful attack and relatively tender defense. They can balance this with ranged and control skills, but they really need a tank or healer to support them.

The best characters in this role are Magnus AND Inanna.

Magnus’s intimidating presence weakens the attack and defense of enemies in his immediate vicinity, making him the perfect tank to soak up aggro and retaliate (or soften up enemies so others can finish them off). He also has really powerful spacing abilities to push enemies around, as well as dealing movement debuffs to keep them grouped together.

In that case, Inanna is probably the best support character in Sword of Convallaria, as she can heal, buff allies (including giving them an extra turn), and also summon a mini guard unit that takes damage for your team in battle. She fits into almost any composition and will be a staple of your team… if you can draw her, of course.

Maitha and Faycal

But since we’re in the middle of the game’s Western lifecycle, we need to discuss some of the more accessible characters as well. Luckily, your two friends from the Sword of Convallaria mercenary group, Maitha AND Fajkal are decent characters who are worth your time and investment. Which is nice, because they are key parts of the early story and faithful friends of Voyager.

What’s even better is that both are free Legendaries for all players at launch. Maitha unlocks naturally, while Faycal unlocks after your third login!

The Mercenary Defender, Maitha, an A-Class character in Sword of Convallaria.

Maitha is a solid Defender with a useful passive that heals the lowest health teammate at the end of her turn. Her skills are good at distracting and manipulating enemies, making her a versatile and influential member of your team – even if she’s not as explosive as some other melee characters.

Here, too, Faycal excels. The archer’s regular attacks are good for maneuvering around obstacles, but it’s his Skills – which can be used to block off huge amounts of space on the board – that really come into their own.

Best Epic Heroes for F2P Players

While Sword of Convallaria rightly places an emphasis on unique, Legendary characters, there are also more accessible characters in Epic rarity that play almost as well (and in some cases better) than their Legendary counterparts.

For example, since Inanna is currently not buffed in the banner, you can look at other healers. Based on the Chinese version of the game, YouTuber Clint Wulf suggests Angel because of her solid healing and basic debuff removal. But she is also Butterflywho is more of a support focused healer, or Nightingalewhich provides protection against area attacks in certain situations and can raise its speed to reach allies in need.

If you don’t have Beryl, there are a ton of other frosty Destroyer mages. One of them is this one that’s basic to miss Abysswhich often comes up in discussions about easier to create characters. As Volkin Gacha notedIt’s not immediately obvious how good debuffs are when you first start the game. Abyss can both deal solid damage and stack debuffs on enemies, making her a versatile threat in a variety of different team compositions.

And then there is Flame Sorceresswhich can summon a fiery terrain to gain distance or damage enemies over time, which is extremely useful in challenging boss fights. The external choice for this slot is The grace of Godwhich was distinguished by YouTuber Zeeebo Zwei as a popular character in the Chinese version of the game. He’s a crossbow-wielding Guardian who, despite his unassuming appearance, is a really good character with a solid set of control skills and enough range to keep enemies at bay.

Then, for Col, the assassin you get at the very beginning of the game, Scarlet Falconhas a basically similar ability, with the difference being that it can move again after defeating an enemy rather than after performing a full action.

Finally, when it comes to melee combat, two characters that appear frequently in gacha and are still very good are Lightningwhich hides an extremely good AoE kit with high survivability and critical hit buffs in its upgrade path, and Stormbreakerwho is a very situational, but very fun crowd control champion with a powerful area of effect.
