Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG powerhouse for Square Enix, with over 25 million registered players and a slew of expansions that have turned things around since its summer launch. Now, it looks like iOS and Android owners will be in for a slice of the fun, as a mobile version of the popular multiplayer spin-off title is apparently ready to launch in China.
In a recent report by Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmadthe arrival of the supposedly titled Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World is one of many recent mobile games being evaluated for certification by the National Press and Publication Administration. The upcoming MMORPG has yet to be officially revealed, but Ahmad claims that it is “in development by Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios and Square Enix.” Additionally, it is supposedly a separate game, rather than a straight port of its console counterpart.
It appears that prior to this certification, Square Enix had already begun trademarking the game, game apps appeared recently, on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. The Square Enix partnership dates back to 2018, when it was announced that the two conglomerates would enter into a “Strategic alliance”for recent releases in the future.
So when can we expect Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World on iOS and Android platforms? Typically, certification means the game is getting closer to a potential release window.
Speculatively, given that the latest expansion XIV Dawntrail released last month and there are no mainline entries until the end of 2024, Crystal World could debut before the end of the year. We hope so, as we’re curious to see how the portable version of the popular MMORPG XIV plays out.
