No More Heroes developer Soichi Suda, also known as Suda51, and Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami are interested in returning to the Killer7 series.
Two famed game developers discussed their potential futures during an episode of Grasshopper Manufacture Grasshopper directly presentations. Towards the end of the 40-minute video, which mostly offers a behind-the-scenes look at Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, Mikami and Suda were asked to comment on what they’re working on next, and it was the Resident Evil veteran who spoke of his desire to see more from Killer7.
“I realized I wanted to have as much influence on the game development process as possible, and I would like Suda to make a sequel to Killer7,” Mikami said.
Suda, surprised, replies: “Really?!”
Killer7 was released in 2005 and tells the story of Harman Smith and his seven deadly personalities. Fans have appreciated the game over the past 19 years, with many of them falling in love with its unique gameplay, graphics, and style. We gave it an 8.1/10 in our original reviewand at the time we said, “Players who can look beyond the control mechanics will find a truly bold and intriguing adventure game hidden within the beautiful, cel-shaded visuals of Killer7.” Suda directed Killer7 under Mikami’s supervision, and he’s not averse to revisiting its world.
“One day we might just see a sequel to Killer7 or a ‘full edition,’” Suda adds. But it sounds like he’d rather start with the latter.
“I would rather do a complete release first. Complete release first, then Killer11,” he says with a smile. Suda continues, “I don’t know – probably ‘Killer7-something.’ Maybe ‘Killer7: Beyond.’”
Mikami believes a full Killer7 remake could be “possible,” but Grasshopper would first have to decide whether to continue it or create some kind of sequel. No sequel has been announced yet. To learn more, you can check out the Killer7 PC port that came out in 2018.
