Capcom announced that Street Fighter 6 has sold over four million copies. This sales milestone comes 15 months after the fighting game launched in June 2023 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
“Thank you for playing and helping us reach this milestone!” Capcom said. “We hope you’re excited about the future of SF6 as we look to release more content and hold more events!”
Street Fighter 6 hit three million copies sold in January, seven months after its release. That means it took a little over half a year to add another million units sold. Capcom said that Street Fighter 6 is “generally performing in line with our expectations.”
Capcom has stated that it aims for Street Fighter 6 to outsell Street Fighter 5, and aims to sell over 10 million copies during its lifetime.
“While we do not provide specific numbers regarding internal budgets, we aim to surpass the title’s predecessor, Street Fighter 5, and are aiming for over 10 million units over the course of the title’s life cycle,” Capcom said. Street Fighter 6 therefore has a long way to go before it surpasses Street Fighter 5’s total sales.
To put Street Fighter 6’s sales into context, 1993’s Street Fighter 2 Turbo for the SNES sold 4.1 million copies, the groundbreaking Street Fighter 2 sold 6.3 million copies, and Street Fighter 5 sold 7.6 million copies.
Another intriguing comparison is the game rivaling Mortal Kombat 1, which has sold four million copies since its September 2023 release. Mortal Kombat is typically the best-selling fighting game franchise, outselling titles like Street Fighter and Tekken by some margin. Mortal Kombat 1 reached four million sales about 11 months after its release. Tekken 8 sold two million copies in a month.
In the meantime, Street Fighter 6 is in its Second 2 phase, and DLC characters Terra and Mai from Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters are coming soon, with Elena set to launch in Winter 2025. Capcom has yet to announce what will happen next.
