“Slicing” is Star Wars slang for hacking. Star Wars: Outlawsour heroine Kay Vess is the kind of rascal who spends a lot of time gleefully trying to take over other people’s property, which — as you might imagine — is often protected by electronic terminals that are perfect targets for a bit of theft.
Various Star Wars video games have put their own spin on slicing over the years, and in Outlaws it takes the form of a fairly standard hacking mini-game with a little twist. Instead of connecting a series of tubes before the clock runs out, you’ll be playing a game that vaguely resembles Wordle, but which real old-timers will recognize as a variant on the aged code-breaking board game Mastermind.

Star Wars Outlaws Slicing Mini-Game Explained
The slicing puzzle in Star Wars Outlaws is essentially a guessing game: you’re faced with a grid of three squares in a row (or four, if you unlock advanced slicing later in the game), and you have to figure out which symbol belongs to each square before you run out of guesses. Hence the similarity to Wordle.
Once you submit your answer, the correct symbol is displayed in the appropriate space. bluean incorrect symbol is displayed here redand the correct symbol is displayed in the wrong place yellow. Symbols that have turned red can no longer be selected from the list of possibilities, helping you track and narrow down your subsequent guesses.
Blue symbols should therefore remain in the same space for further guessing attempts, while yellow symbols should be moved to the remaining fields until their correct position is found.
Unlike Wordle, however, there’s no predetermined set of rules (like “five-letter words in English”) to aid you narrow down the pattern; it’s completely random, although you’re helped by the fact that, unlike Wordle (or Mastermind), the same symbol can’t appear more than once in the solution.
