Star Wars Outlaws Boasts Ubisoft’s Largest Marketing Budget, Expected to Launch Strongly

Published:

Ubisoft is betting everything on the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws, which is set to launch next month on August 30 for PS5. Given that “Star Wars” is in the name, it should come as no surprise that significant marketing resources are being poured into the project and that the company expects the game to do well.

At least that’s what Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says, making this bold prediction during a recent company event telephone conversation regarding financial results (Thanks, MP1st), although it wasn’t as bold as some investors had hoped. Nick Dempsey of Barclays estimated five million units sold based on Ubisoft’s guidance and asked if the company wasn’t being too cautious. To which Guillemot replied:

“We’re looking at a strong launch for Star Wars Outlaws. It’s a fact that it’s one of the most anticipated games in the industry this year and reflects a really strong sense of positivity from the community, as well as the fact that we’re launching the biggest marketing campaign yet for a Ubisoft game.”

We’d like to know how much Ubisoft spent on marketing this thing and what kind of return on investment the company will see. We had a chance to play the game for ourselves during Summer Game Fest and had some concerns, but we’ll be keeping an eye on things leading up to and after launch.
