ALGS (Apex Legends Global Series) Split 2 Playoffs 2024 has finally come to an end as SSG emerges as the winner. All 20 teams that reached the final battled it out in as many as 10 matches before finally wrapping up the entire tournament with a victory.
40 teams came to the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs to compete over three days for a spot in the finals. Each day started early and ended tardy, pushing every player to their limits. The final day is by far the most challenging of them all. Teams start with no points and have to play to earn them quickly in order to work towards a win and come out on top. This requires a lot of focus and stamina, and SSG demonstrated just that.
Winner, winner
The final day of each ALGS tournament works a little differently than other days. Teams must play matches, get kills, and win until they reach 50 points. Then, in games after that number of points, they can win the entire tournament if they win just one match.
But there are many nuances to this day. Teams don’t want to get to 50 points too early, or all the other teams are targeting them so they don’t end up winning the tournament. This continues until enough teams get to 50 points, and it becomes a bloodbath, and the only way it ends is for one team to beat all the others with the skill and prowess that got them this far.
After two consecutive victories by GaiminGladiators, we all thought that the tournament would end earlier than ever before, namely in Match 4. Fortunately, the second stage playoffs did not end there, even though Alliance and GamingGladiators came very close to winning at the end of Match 5.
We all thought it might end again in match 6, but GaminGladiators fell early and Fnatic took the win. Not Moist were in an incredibly good position early in this match, but just didn’t last as long as Fnatic.
Both GaminGladiators and Alliance entered match 7 with 50+ points, meaning either team could have won the tournament. This quickly carried over to match 8, where we had six teams that could have won if they had managed to get ahead and had the skills to stay on top until the end.
This could have been the most invigorating match of the entire tournament. The final circle was filled with teams in Match Point, but somehow TSM managed to beat them all and keep us in the game for one more round.
Right from the get-go, Match 9 truly felt like the one. Alliance gave us all a huge shock and awe moment as one player took down not one, not two, but three opposing players on the map in a hat trick that I don’t think they were even expecting. But that wasn’t enough as LiquidAlienware managed to completely annihilate all six potential winners and take the match for themselves.
Eleven teams that could potentially win the tournament entered Match 10. At one point, Enter Force.36 were the only team not in Match Point in the final circle, against five teams that could have won the match, but then SSG came and took it for themselves.
I asked a few people how many games they thought the finals would last, and nine was the highest number I was given. The 2024 ALGS Split 2 Playoffs were a huge success that I don’t think any of the fans watching or playing ALGS will Apex Legends will soon lose its charm.
