Originally released in June, Splitgate 2 immediately divided Splitgate fans by offering a number of microtransactions, some of which were incredibly steep, while also adding a fresh Battle Royale mode, despite the team previously criticizing Call of Duty et al.

The story of Splitgate 2 is one of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The first game was a surprise hit in the indie shooter genre, breaking into the extremely competitive multiplayer shooter arena and securing its place on the battlefield. The shooter, largely inspired by Halo, found a huge fan base, so it was expected that Splitgate 2 should be a continuation of this success. The beta period was a rocky one, though, with a mix of unpopular changes to the game’s formula and the odd public appearance by Ian Proulx wearing a “Make FPS Great Again” hat that didn’t go down well with some of the community.

However, it looks like the team has done a lot of work to address all of these issues, and we hope that the reboot will be the success it deserves.
