Splitgate 2 is scheduled to re-release on December 17 with major gameplay changes and a rebranding to Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, 1047 Games announced.
Splitgate: Arena Reloaded is a fundamental change in gameplay direction compared to Splitgate 2, which premiered in June. Factions have been removed, as have their associated abilities, focusing on the more purist combat of a classic arena shooter. For this reason, the game’s progression has been rebuilt and the ranking system has been revamped.
There are five recent maps and six completely reworked maps where you’ll play in recent Arena modes, including the Classic Arena mode, which even offers launches and boosters to earn. Oh, and there are also three recent primary weapons and a rail gun as a recent power weapon.
To summarize, prices in stores have been lowered, the battle pass has been simplified and they promise better quality cosmetics.
Instead of studio founder Ian Proulx taking the stage at the Summer Game Fest celebrating the launch of Splitgate 2, 1047 Games design director Josh Watson provided the key quote: “Splitgate has always been a love letter to the shooters we grew up playing. We worked hard rebuilding the game from the ground up, taking the best of Splitgate 1 and Splitgate 2, removing what didn’t work, and refining what did.”
Splitgate: Arena Reloaded releases on December 17 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and Xbox One, and 1047 will really be met with hope that it will be better received this time around and that it will generate enough goodwill to regain the popularity that the original game’s first open betas had.
