Today, 1047 Games revealed that Splitgate 2 will be re-released as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded on December 17, 2025. It will be available as a free-to-play game on PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
This followed the release and “unpressure” of Splitgate 2 earlier this year. Splitgate 2 released in June to mediocre reviews, controversy, and a rapid decline in player numbers as criticism of the game mounted. In response, 1047 “pulled back the release” of Splitgate 2, announcing in July that it would temporarily end support for the game while the team worked on a novel version of the game with “large, sweeping changes.”
We then spoke to CEO Ian Proulx. During our conversation, he explained that Splitgate 2 “wasn’t a finished product” at launch and that fans were demanding a game closer to Splitgate 1. He then assured that the team would focus on updating the game in line with player feedback, including adding “core features” such as a scoreboard and better progression, more portal walls, and tweaking game modes.
Proulx also said he wanted to make the season pass and monetization in general less confusing while still maintaining the freedom of play. At the time, Proulx predicted the update would happen in early 2026, so the December launch would come sooner than expected.
So what is Splitgate: Arena Reloaded? According to the press release, it “reimagines everything from core combat to the user interface.” Here’s an overview of the major updates provided by 1047:
- Factions, abilities and selected equipment have been removed to re-focus on classic arena combat
- Progression has been rebuilt from the ground up and the ranking system has been overhauled
- 5 novel and 6 fully reworked maps introduced, 3 novel primary weapons and 1 novel power weapon: rail gun
- New Arena modes, a selection of playlists and a true Classic Arena mode with equal starts and boosts
- Reduced prices in the store, simplified battle pass, and improved overall cosmetic quality
The accompanying video featuring former Rocket League game director and current Project 1047 director Josh Watson also notes that Arena Reloaded includes additional player stats, leaderboards, and a career system.
We initially gave Splitgate 2 a 7/10 at launch, calling it “a decent follow-up to the original that expands on it but never really surpasses it.”
