Insomniac Games has released an update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 that allows players to take advantage of the graphical and performance options of the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro console.

This was announced by developer Sony updatealong with a similar update for 2021’s Ratchet & Clank: Rift ApartON social media Today. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Update 1.004 is almost entirely focused on giving owners of the soon-to-be-released console additional visual options so they can move around New York City with improved graphics or higher frame rates.

Insomniac is rolling out updates to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PS5 Pro.

Insomniac says the default setting will be Performance Pro mode, which achieves 60 frames per second “while maintaining the image quality of standard Fidelity mode through the use of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).” This is the team’s recommended setting because it also enables all ray tracing (RT) features.

On the other hand, there is the Fidelity Pro 30 frames per second mode. Insomniac says this is a visual option for those who want to “experiment” with some of the modern ray tracing features offered by the PS5 Pro, which can be customized to suit each player’s preferences. With Fidelity Pro, you may also notice that foot traffic and traffic may boost in several areas of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and hairstyle details may also become uneven.

Update 1.004 also includes three modern graphics toggles: RT Key Light Shadows, RT Reflections & Interiors, and RT Ambient Occlusion. All three tools are aimed at those who like to customize their gaming experience down to the smallest detail, although Insomniac warns that you’ll notice changes in some parts of New York more often than others.

Expect many of the same PS5 Pro improvements if you also try the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart update to version 1.005, including the default Performance Pro Mode and Fidelity Pro Mode. This patch also fixes “missing fur moisture” in some videos taking place on Corson V.

The PS5 5 Pro won’t be available for another few weeks, but it’s still causing quite a stir among Sony gaming fans since the company last month I pulled back the curtain. It turned out that the device was costly high $700drawing criticism from those who believe the update is not worth the price. We’ll learn more about what major improvements will be made when we launch next month.

While you wait for the PS5 Pro to launch on November 7, you can check it out our hands-on preview. You can also check why we think Sony’s latest hardware release is too much for too little. Finally, you can see the full patch notes for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart below.

NEW GRAPHIC MODES

PRO PERFORMANCE (default for PlayStation 5 Pro)

The goal of this mode is a sleek 60 frames per second, while maintaining the image quality of standard Fidelity mode by using PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). All ray tracing (RT) features are enabled, including ray tracing reflections, ray tracing on water, and ray tracing window interiors. This mode is recommended for most players.

PRO FAITH

This mode is intended for players who want to experiment with modern ray-traced graphics features in the 30 frames per second range. These modern features can be individually tuned to achieve higher intermediate frame rates, especially when using the “VRR” or “120Hz Display Mode” options. Some areas may experience increased pedestrian and traffic volume, as well as increased fine hair detail.

NEW GRAPHIC SWITCHES

RT key delicate shadows: off (performance) / on (default fidelity)
Use ray tracing to calculate sun shadows at medium and long distances, replacing cascading shadow maps. This improvement has the greatest impact on city views. Only available in “Fidelity Pro” graphics mode.

Reflections and interiors RT: Medium (performance) / High (default fidelity)
Set the quality level for ray-traced reflections and building window interiors. The “Medium” setting performs ray tracing at half the render resolution, while the “High” setting enables ray tracing at full render resolution. The “High” setting will also improve the smoothness of animations in reflections and interiors. Only available in “Fidelity Pro” graphics mode.

Ambient Occlusion RT: Off (performance) / Medium / High (default fidelity)
Use ray tracing to calculate additional ambient occlusive lighting information. The “Medium” setting uses this information to boost ambient occlusion in screen space. The “High” setting also adds a GI reflection in the screen space to provide additional information about ambient lighting. The visual effect of this feature will vary greatly depending on the scene.
