The developers behind Space Marine 2 announced that the planned multiplayer beta has been canceled as the team wants to focus all their attention on the retail game and its launch. And after the last few years, when many gigantic games launched in destitute shape, this seems like a clever move.
Announced in 2021and then delayed to 2023, Space Marine 2 looks pretty good. I can’t wait for the third-person shooter to be released later this year. And I’m not even that gigantic Warhammer 40k man! I just loved it original Space Marine, which was released on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2011. And this novel version looks even bigger and better. But if you were excited, check out the upcoming ones Space Marine 2 before the beta launch, well, the bad news: that won’t happen anymore.
On June 28, Saber Interactive developers confirmed that it will not take place as planned Space Marine 2 online multiplayer beta testing. The developers claim that the game is “almost ready” and are focusing on optimizing, polishing and fixing remaining bugs. Due to this, the developers decided to cancel the beta, claiming that it would distract “development teams” from preparing for launch.
“We know this is disappointing news for some of you,” Saber Interactive said in a post on Steam on Friday. “As a thank you to those interested in participating, players who signed up via online registration before June 28, 2024, midnight Paris time, will receive the limited edition Bolt Pistol skin.”
“We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work to deliver the exceptional game you deserve,” Saber said.
The beta test has now been cancelled first teaser in August 2023, and players can register for access on the game’s official website. At that time, there was no release date or beta window yet. However, after this initial tease, Saber Interactive muted the beta radio, leaving some fans worried whether it would even happen. Now we know.
On Steam, some fans have expressed concerns that Saber Interactive is trying to hide the game from players before launch. Others were confused as to why it took so long to announce the news. Personally, I hope that allowing the team to focus on finishing and polishing the main game rather than betaing it will support Space Marine 2 greatest chance to start in good form.
We’ll have to wait and see if the test cancellation paid off. Space Marine 2 it’s finally coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 9.
