Toei Animation announced today that One Piece is taking a break from the Egghead Arc until next year, but you’ll still have some anime to keep you motivated.
It’s scarce for a One Piece anime to go on a particularly long hiatus, but after a long, uninterrupted stretch of episodes, it’s finally taking one. As Toei Animation announced earlier today, the anime is on hiatus until April 2025, a full half year, and during the special One Piece News eventapparently this is to “recharge the batteries”, which is an understandable reason considering how difficult anime has been over the last year. I wouldn’t worry too much though, as Toei also announced that you’ll still have the One Piece anime to keep you going. It’s just anime you’ve seen before.

Later this month, on October 27, a special version of the Fishman Island saga will be released, the synopsis of which explains: “The promised day has come. The Straw Hats returned to the Sabaody Archipelago after two arduous years apart. In the same place where they once lost to the Pacifista, the Straw Hats proved that they were stronger and ready to begin their journey to the New World. The Thousand Sunny is now equipped to travel underwater, and the next stop is Fishman Island. One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga is a specially edited version of the original One Piece story, featuring a condensed 21-episode story with an enhanced, contemporary look.”

This sounds more like a Dragon Ball Z Kai situation rather than something Netflix is doing with its own One Piece remake, so don’t expect it to look completely recent. For those who don’t know, Fishman Island Saga is the first part of The Final Sea: The New World Saga to have a time jump, so it’s not necessarily the best time jump considering it’s halfway through the story.
Speaking of the Netflix remake, Wit Studio’s Takeshi Wada shared the plain but somewhat stupid reason why One Piece even got a remake a few months ago.
