Judging by exclusive content from early developers, the PS VR2 adapter, and recent efforts to enable DualSense Edge customization on PC, I’m starting to think Sony is starting to get used to this whole PC gaming craze.
It’s high time.
As part of its latest ode to PC, Sony is opening up support for customizing the DualSense Edge controller on PC. This is done via the PlayStation Accessories app, which was previously the “Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller” app—I understand why they changed the name. As long as you download the latest version (2.0.0.13) from its official websiteyou can try it now.
One thing to note: this only works on the DualSense Edge, Sony’s top-of-the-line controller. The app doesn’t open the option on the much cheaper DualSense. I made the mistake of thinking that might be the case and rushed to connect my PS5 controller, only to see a Bluetooth connection screen and nothing else.
Too bad, but to be fair, I didn’t read Sony’s recent tweet where this distinction was clearly stated.
Starting today, PC gamers can unleash the full, customizable power of the DualSense Edge controller directly on their PC. With the PlayStation Accessories app, you can customize your controller settings and update its firmware directly from your Windows PC: https://t.co/QoPFGu8qC7 pic.twitter.com/FQHNkkfbSfAugust 27, 2024
DualSense Edge users will at least get something out of this. This includes adjusting button mappings, dead zone fixes, and vibration intensity.
Easy ways to make your $200 controller yours to own when gaming on your PC.
This support is of course very welcome. It’s just more evidence of Sony’s growing love for PC. Although, for the avoidance of doubt, there are plenty of premium PC-enabled controllers to choose from, and for that reason I wouldn’t recommend the DualSense Edge for PC-only gamers. Just pick up any of the best PC controllers and you’re good to go.
