Sony is allowing refunds for Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection because compilation on PS5 and PS4 is ‘just a nightmare’ for some

Everyone knows that Mortal Kombat was cheated to get you to play more quarters.

The original arcade games were designed so that the artificial intelligence could read your input, thus counteracting absolutely anything you did.

Marketed primarily for its authenticity, the newly released Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection retains all of this code – even if you fiddle with the DIP switches and set the difficulty to Very Easy.

Unfortunately, in 2025, this is a headache for newer players who may not have understood what they were signing up for.

“I received a refund for Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection,” wrote an irritated player Reddit. “And this is coming from someone who grew up with Trilogy and beyond. Reading AI input is just a nightmare and it shouldn’t be like this, it’s completely unacceptable, it’s one of the worst ‘remasters’ I’ve ever played.”

The post is getting a bit of a negative review as many people point out that this is not the case supposed be a remaster and is intended to preserve the original experience – for better or for worse.

But they are not alone, with other users citing similar complaints and claiming to have also requested a refund.

The problem must be particularly significant because technically Sony doesn’t do this To have refund policy for digital games.

It has been known to make exceptions in extreme circumstances – such as Cyberpunk 2077 and MindsEye – but generally does not allow its customers to return digital games.

However, in this case, it appears that customer service is accepting refund requests, as evidenced by the above Reddit thread via screenshots with a PlayStation representative.

To be fair, Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection currently has other, more legitimate input lag issues on PS5, which developer Digital Eclipse has promised to patch. More details are expected to appear this week.

But what do you think about fans who return to such retro games because they play the way they were originally designed? This is a tough question.

We wouldn’t be surprised if the team eventually patches the balanced difficulty toggle as an option that softens the reading of AI input, as it seems most fans don’t really agree with the way these games were originally designed.
