Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds reveals free Yakuza character ahead of Nintendo Switch 2 launch

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds I admit that it surprised me. While everyone from your grandma to your local UPS driver gets a piece of Garfield Kart 2, Sega’s racer handles things differently. Nothing can replace the destruction of songs as icons Yakuza finally a character, and as the Nintendo Switch 2 launch prepares to meet you at the starting line, you can expect Ichiban Kasuga to be available in the original Switch version soon.

You don’t have to wait long for Kasuga’s debut in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. If you already own the modern Switch game on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S or PC, you’ll be able to unlock it on Thursday, November 6, 2025. It doesn’t cost a dime, either. Studio Ryu Ga Gotoku makes it available for free download, but that’s not all. If you feel like testing your skills against other players, a modern event is coming up.

From Friday, November 7, 2025, to Monday, November 10, 2025, players can participate in the Yakuza Festival to celebrate Kasuga’s arrival. As with previous Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds characters, such as the Minecraft event, it is not necessary to have the Ichiban Kasuga DLC to join. However, if you own it, you can expect limited-time rewards and other Yakuza-themed goodies.

Kasuga joins the growing list of entertaining drivers. Smoking rubber next to SpongeBob SquarePants is nothing to scoff at, as Sega seems to be aiming for the Fortnite crown when it comes to delivering forceful Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds crossovers. The game also isn’t afraid to throw punches at rivals like Mario Kart World.

As you know, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has not yet been properly released on Nintendo Switch 2. The worst thing is that Sega does not specify when this release will take place. What we do know is that Sega plans to release the game during the holiday season as a digital download on the Nintendo eShop. The physical version is expected to appear in early 2026. Sega isn’t sharing details on what upcoming improvements, but we believe 4K resolution when docked and 60 frames per second in both modes will be provided.

While our Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds review gave the game a respectable 7/10, I personally think it’s worth your time. Alternatively, our Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut review comes to the Nintendo Switch 2 port, providing an ideal entry point for modern players.
