. Steam deck It is very popular (and Good!) Gamed device that allows you to play many favorite computer games on travel. But what would happen if it was a screen without a screen that you had to connect to the TV for use? Well, someone ripped their own steam deck to do it and called it a “steam brick”.

As noted by Haq Parl ParetThe user of Github, Crastinator-PRO, outlined the work, which he puts in creating a steam deck console, as they explained why they did it and photos of the process and the finished product. And before we go further, let me be clear: unless you have a spare steam deck to open, don’t do it on your portable device.

According to Taster-PROAn impulse for creating steam brick may not be what you expect. As explained at GitHub, the steam brick was created because the steam deck is too large to fit in the Crastinator-PRO backpack. And because the steam deck was usually connected to television glasses or AR, when Modder used it, they wondered how much smaller the device could be if there is no screen or built -in controls. To find out, they ripped one open and began to look at all unnecessary pieces.

After some DIY, Modder realized that they could remove all internal plates and components related to touch pads, analog sticks, buttons and other control elements, and the steam deck would continue to work. They also removed the screen and all combined components and bits and continued to work. Then they printed a tiny, basic plastic box and pushed what was left of the corpse of the steam deck into the box, sealed it and added the USB port and the power button and … please! Steam deck console.

Now Crastinator-PRO explains that you probably shouldn’t do it yourself, calling it “a very bad idea” and explaining that they were “honestly surprised”, that it worked. They say that they do not think about Github’s post as a guide, but as more about “how I did it”. And although the final result works for the modeler – they now have a tiny device that can throw in the backpack – they are not sure how long the steam brick will work after all modifications.

If you really want a steam console, don’t do it. Instead, just wait for the valve to be done. Rumors are associated that Valve is currently working on a television -based device that will run Steamos and act like a steam deck for a TV. Sounds safer than using power tools on board to reduce it.
