Should you give Benny to Katsumi or Ryong in VTMB2?

Beware of spoilers from the beginning of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 in this guide.

As you progress through the main story Bloodlines 2you will meet the first boss. Your opponent in this abandoned warehouse that looks suspiciously like a German nightclub is Benny Muldoon, the sheriff of Seattle who has gone rogue in the wake of the recent murder of Prince Campbell.

By this point in the story, Muldoon is completely masked in his bigotry towards the Thinbloods. Whether or not Nomad is personally offended by finding gruesomely dismembered corpses of defenseless vampires everywhere, Prince Ryong, when giving them the assignment, makes it clear that the goal is to track down Benny and bring him to justice.

However, after the boss fight, during which you defeat Benny, you will suddenly have to make a decision. Katsumi Ishizaki – not exactly the “leader” of the Seattle Anarchs, but perhaps the only figurehead able to unite most of the divided sub-factions – follows you to Benny’s location. There he makes a pretty convincing argument that Benny should be punished by the communities he wronged and not by the Camarilla, who don’t really care about dead Thinbloods except for appearances. That, of course, would mean giving him to her instead.

Once you’ve chosen your clan, this is likely the first major plot branching decision you’ll make in Bloodlines 2, even if it doesn’t necessarily turn out the way you might expect. Read on everything you need to know before deciding whether to give Benny to Katsumi or Ryong in Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2.

What should you do with Benny in VTMB2?

First, let’s be clear that this decision doesn’t really have many short-term consequences. Even though I felt like this was the point where the story could branch out, Ryong always appoints you as the fresh sheriff in Benny’s place when you report to her. Seattle needs a fresh sheriff, Ryong needs to keep an eye on you, and you need to quickly enhance your influence in the city to continue the investigation into what exactly is happening to you: it always ended this way, no matter what reasoning someone might give for their choice.

However, this does not mean that they exist NO any consequences of this decision.

Deciding to hand Benny over to Katsumi despite promising to bring him back to the Camarilla, he will ruin your relationship with Ryong, regardless of the fact that she still puts you in charge. Conversely, it makes a good first impression on Katsumi and the other Anarchs, who will be impressed that (at least in their eyes) you value meaningful justice over strict law enforcement.

Deciding to return to Weaver Tower with Benny it will make a really positive impression on Prince Ryong, but it will not impress Katsumi. The latter won’t fight you, and her soldiers will let you leave with Benny without any resistance if you decide to stick to your mission, but it certainly won’t get you any progress with the Anarchs either.

Gaining the trust of faction leaders has a major impact on the ending you receive in Bloodlines 2so while it may seem like you don’t know enough facts yet, this is your first chance to start impressing the side you ultimately want to ally with.

In other words, if you already know that your goal is to end the Camarilla, you should take Benny back to Ryong; and if you think the Anarchs might be faster than you, you should let Katsumi take him.

When it comes to more story options in Bloodlines 2, obviously who you can romance and how is extremely significant. But before you get there, you may want to learn more about how to impress Lou Graham on your first interview.
