Diablo 4 Season 7 is here, and when you first boot up the game to select a character, you’ll have more to choose from than just a class and a hairstyle. Once you’re ready to start playing, you need to make a final decision: Do you want to play? Seasonal kingdom or Eternal Kingdom?
Including Diablo 4 guide, we will explain what it means to play in the Seasonal Kingdom or the Eternal Kingdomso you can make your choice and start killing monsters right away.
What is the difference between the Seasonal Land and the Eternal Land in Diablo 4?
When creating your character, you will be asked to select several “Gameplay Options” on the Finalize screen. Here you can check the box indicating that you want to play as a seasonal character or a hardcore character (which means death is indefinite), or both if you check both boxes. As of Season 7, the Seasonal option is checked by default, but if you uncheck the box, you will enter the Eternal Realm.
Seasonal kingdom contains everything in Diablo 4 — both campaigns, open world, everything — plus the latest additions like seasonal content that only lasts for about 12 weeks. The Seasonal Kingdom is also the only place where you can progress your Battle Pass or Season Journey.
The Eternal Kingdom Is Diablo 4 no seasonal bells and whistles – no battle pass, no Season Journey, no special seasonal mechanics. However, Blizzard typically adds fresh content to the Eternal Realm each season, such as Uniques and Legendary Aspects, as well as mechanical additions such as the fresh endgame bosses introduced in Season 2. All Vessel of Hatred content is available in the Eternal Realm if you have it.
Should you choose the Seasonal Realm or the Eternal Realm in Diablo 4 Season 7?
Season 7 is the first major fresh season theme in a long time, with brand fresh witch powers that mimic the shaman from Diablo 3. There are off-season things like the Armory and Ultimate updates this season, but there are so many fresh seasonal mechanics to play with for the first time in months.
With this in mind, we recommend playing in the Seasonal Kingdom and experience creating a fresh character – maybe even try out the Spiritborn class if you missed it Vessel of Hatredlaunch window (although this class is still locked in the add-on, so you need to purchase it first). As always, there’s a Season Pass with all cosmetic items and a Season Journey that allows you to get key items for your version of choice.
The Land of Eternity will receive fresh item updates and the highly requested Armory feature. The Armory is a box in the city that allows you to save multiple structures and quickly switch between them. It is also available in the Seasonal Kingdom.
If you decide to play Eternal Realm for some time, please note that you will lose progress towards seasonal rewards through the Season Pass and Season Travel.
Just know that whatever you choose, you will only be able to play with characters from the same world as you. So if you’re playing with friends, first decide where you want to play. This is especially significant if you plan to play the fresh version Vessel of Hatred campaign with friends.
Is there ever a reason to choose the Eternal Realm in Diablo 4?
As we have already mentioned, characters from the Seasonal Land can only play with other characters from the Seasonal Land, and the same applies to characters from the Eternal Land. If you just want to jump in and play a few dungeons with friends who are using an elderly Eternal Realm character, you shouldn’t make a seasonal character.
Similarly, to play seasonally, you’ll need to start a brand fresh character from level 1. If you’re returning to an elderly character and want to see what it’s like for that class after you level up a bit, you’ll need to play the Eternal Realm or level up in the fresh one version of this class.
You can also play Eternal Realm since you’ve already completed most of the original Diablo 4 campaign already on the elderly character. So if you’re on the fifth of six acts of an Eternal Realm character, it’s probably a good idea to complete the campaign there first and then start the seasonal character after defeating Vessel of Hatred campaign. Likewise if you didn’t finish Vessel of Hatred campaign, you should do this on your Eternal Realm character first to unlock the ability to skip the campaign on your Season 7 character.
Finally, if you really hate the current season’s seasonal mechanics but still want to blast through some of Diablo’s dungeons, you can play Eternal Realm to avoid the fresh stuff. That is, unless there aren’t many seasonal themes at all, like: Diablo 4fourth and fifth seasons.
Heading into this season, here’s the ultimate Spiritborn build, all Akarat Rules locations, and guides on how to unlock Mercenaries and get more loot in Kurast Undercity.
