Sega reveals that Sonic x Shadow Generations sold 1 million units on its launch day

Published:

Sega announced that Sonic x Shadow Generations has already sold one million copies, even though it won’t be released until today, October 25.

Being an improved remake of 2011’s Sonic Generations hasn’t slowed down Blue Blur on the sales front, and that number includes worldwide sales on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

In addition to the remake portion comes Shadow Generations, a brand novel piece of gameplay similar to how Super Mario 3D World was enhanced by Bowser’s Fury in the Nintendo Switch remake.

“Sonic x Shadow Generations is a title that combines two games: Sonic Generations, in which players can enjoy speed running through various stages in classic Sonic and Modern Sonic, enriched with new elements, and Shadow Generations, a completely new game, in which in which the dark hero Shadow races in dynamic environments,” we read in the official synopsis.

“The story begins when a mysterious entity called the Time Eater creates distortions in time and space, setting off separate adventures for Sonic and Shadow. Players can expect a fast-paced action adventure with distinct gameplay and narrative.”

The game was also well-reviewed by critics. “Sonic x Shadow Generations takes an already excellent game and elevates it to new heights this spring with a creative Shadow campaign and a major graphical upgrade,” IGN said in our 9/10 review.

Sonic x Shadow Generations is Sega’s latest hit; the Atlus-developed role-playing game Metaphor: ReFantazio also sold one million copies on its launch day.
