After screenshots and footage surfaced online, Sega is allegedly working on a remake of the original Jet Set Radio as a separate project to the officially announced reboot of the series.
It’s unclear whether the leaks are true, but X/Twitter user @MSKAZZY69 shared four photos of the alleged reboot, citing previously reliable Sega leaker Midori – although it was revealed that it was a leaker named MysticDistance impersonating someone else, when he claimed to have leaked information in early June 2024.
The source of the screenshots is therefore unclear, as is the 32-second gameplay video, which does not appear to be listed on the YouTube channel @CrimsonMk3but both show what looks like an updated version of the beloved Jet Set Radio. IGN has reached out to Sega for comment.
SEGA is working on a remake of the original Jet Set Radio, it is a full remake of the Dreamcast game and is not related to the F2P reboot.

Three of the screenshots show protagonist Beat exploring Tokyo by sliding along rails and running along walls, while the fourth shows the World Map, which highlights locations such as the Center, DennoCho Station, Neribei, SubCul, and the South.
The video shows off a trailer for the game, which appears to be in development, and once again shows Beat roaming Tokyo, painting graffiti, performing tricks, and more. This footage is incredibly similar, if not identical, to the “Next Generation” montage Sega released when it announced the reboot alongside reboots of other classic franchises Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Shinobi and Streets of Rage in December 2023.
This remake, if true, is ostensibly separate from the Jet Set Radio reboot, but meets many of the same criteria. The remake is also likely open-ended, bringing classic characters and gameplay to current platforms. The original creators are also involved.
Sega has announced that the game’s reboot will take place alongside reboots of other classic series such as Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Shinobi and Streets of Rage in December 2023.
