Updated version of the classic PlayStation strategy 1997 RPG, Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice ChroniclesHe is on the way. And even better, some members of the original team are working on it.
“This final fantasy tactics inspired me to sacrifice my life to become a game designer,” reveals Kazutoyo Maehiro, who was the planner of the original events, and now director Ivalice Chronicles. “Even now it serves me as emotional foundations, so he is very close to my heart.”
Together with other members of the programmers’ team, such as Yasumi Matsuno (original script, script and editor), present from the original PlayStation, there is no doubt that this processing is in unthreatening hands. For novices, this means that you can experience an engaging and opulent story about a conflict in restless earth, with an updated and added dialogue, voice and recent functions, including an improved and optimized user interface.
Reconstruction of Ivalice
This process was not deprived of his challenges. Purists have the option of choosing a classic version, recreating the original as faithfully as possible, but creating both IT and an improved version with its challenges, taking into account the original main data and the source code, they no longer exist. “It was simply the norm at the time,” explains Maehiro. “We did not have such effective resource management tools today and we have developed games, basically overwriting the previous code every time we fix the error or added a new language.”
“The best way to ensure that the game met modern playability standards, while remaining faithful to the original was its reconstruction. ” – – Kazutoyo Maehiro, director, Ivalice Chronicles
“Because the classic version was supposed to recreate the original game, we had the option of implementing with the help of an emulator,” he continues. “However, this method would not allow us to make detailed improvements, even if the goal was to recreate the original game. After our analysis, we felt the best way to ensure that the game met modern playability standards while remaining faithful to the original.”
This reconstruction of the original produced a classic version, which was then updated to create an improved version. Hard work paid off, which gives the team a solid foundation, on which all improvements and changes could stand, enabling granules to improve the quality of life, such as automatic savings function, as well as adding elements that had to be removed from the original due to time.
“One of the things we had to cut for the first time was the dialogue of the character,” reveals Maehiro. “It was disappointing for me, just like Matsuna, who worked on add -ons and improvements of scripts and improving Ivalice Chronicles. This time we added dialogue, making general additions and improving history.
“Even if the game design is perfect, people will not appreciate it if the controls are not great.” – – Kazutoyo Maehiro, director, Ivalice Chronicles
“For example, in the original game, some characters rarely spoke after recruitment, but here we added conversations that play during battles. By sending them to specific battles, characters such as Agrias, Cid and Mustadio, they say much more. Some of these dialogues not only exchange between characters, but complement the narrative or touch the hearts of history, such as the ELMD ELMD ELMD ELMD awning
UI also received control, and the improved version received a full graphic review. “The goal was to create a” optimal solution to play in the Final Fantasy Tactics, “sums up Maehiro. “Even if the game design is perfect, people will not appreciate it if the controls are not great.”
Giving his voice tactics
Although history remains one of the greatest benefactors of the remaster, it is captivating to discover why it happened. “One of the greatest reasons we decided to add and improve history was that this game contains medicine,” says Maehiro. “If we just added a voice without regulation, it would sound unnaturally. So we adapted lines so that they could flow as a conversation, significantly increasing their immersion, while the additions explain the thoughts, goals and origin of the characters.
“When the voices of the characters played on the screen, I felt that the actors really enlivened their powerful performances. Maybe I felt like this because I was working on the original game, but I am sure that both fans and novices would be able to refer to this feeling.”
Fans will probably also appreciate the introduction of the state of the kingdom, a summary of high -level information and random knowledge that plays between battles, just like this function in the Final Fantasy XVI, which was also designed by Maehiro.
“We wanted to give players to further appreciate the story, but we managed to make this information to be browned chronologically according to the actions of the hero. So if you want to check the wider flow of history, you can through the state of the kingdom, while if you want to learn even more details, you can through gossip in taverns or other features.”
“In the classical version, these matters can be reproduced as then, and in the improved version they have been recreated using artifacts and miracles with a higher definition along with graphically reviewing the user interface for more accessible experience, so we hope you will like it.”
Tactical tips and tricks
By adding Stratagems to the battle, which compiles strategy guidelines, it was right to ask if the team has any tips for recent players in the Final Fantasy Tactics – Ivalice Chronicles. “At the beginning I recommend connecting Archer with Arts of War knights,” suggests the game producer, Shoichi Matsuzawa. “Especially with rend. Try the opponent’s weapon before they come into contact with high soil.
“If you are not sure about the skills of subordinate actions, just use the subject for now. Running them to learn the mixture and Phoenix may allow them to take action immediately.”
“It is essentially easier to have two dealers of short -circuits, such as monks, ninja and dragon; two distance dealers, such as black magicians and archers; and one healer, such as white magicians or chemists,” adds Maehiro. “But it is probably good for you that each character develops its paths individually – such as being a dealer of injuries or a healer – and not thoughtlessly trying their hand at them, learning everything.
“My personal preference is to improvise my strategies on site, such as raising or lowering parameters or convincing enemies to become an ally using Speechcraft. This requires knowledge and improvisation, which is why I encourage advanced tactical RPG players to try.”
“Our greatest source of pride is the fact that the game is still beloved by so many fans, even after 28 years after the original release.” – – Kazutoyo Maehiro, director, Ivalice Chronicles
Regardless of whether you take valuable indicators at hand or build your party in your own way, we are all excited about seeing this masterpiece to find a completely recent audience, while satisfying his venerable fans. This is a sentiment repeated by the game team. “Our greatest source of pride is the fact that the game is still beloved by so many fans, even after 28 years after the original release,” says Maehiro. “My chest swells with pride, knowing that I had a chance to be involved in the original version of my beloved game, as well as this latest iteration.”
“Final Fantasy tactics include many Final Fantasy staples, such as work and call, but it is also a complete, independent story,” continues Matsuzawa. “It’s a great game to start with if you’re recent in the Final Fantasy series, so I hope you try.
“Some of you could avoid playing because it is a tactical RPG, but the improved version allows you to adapt the difficulty so that the game is more available. We hope you take the opportunity to experience the rich world of Ivalice.”
We didn’t wait long before our dreams were realized. Final Fantasy Tactics – Ivalice Chronicles begins on September 30 on PS5 and PS4.
