The Finals Season 4 is almost here. It will kick off on September 26 with a novel map, a novel tutorial, and the return of Cashout as the main ranked mode. Below is a novel trailer that is worth watching even if you don’t play The Finals, says I.
The Finals has the best trailers in video games. I’m sure I’ve written about this before, but just look at this thing. Pretty much everything in the game showing off the stuff you can actually do; the art design and the way logos and ads are weaved or layered into the game world; the sound design, like the announcer yelling “Showtime!” stretched out and overwhelmed by the sounds of the action. It’s a feast for the eyes.
The action above takes place in Fortune Stadium, a novel map added for Season 4 that has three distinct areas based on (fictional) corporate sponsors for the season. Of course, it’s fully destructible, like all The Finals maps.
The Finals’ third season introduced a novel mode, Terminal Attack, and made it the game’s ranked mode. It clearly didn’t go over so well. “We know that moving to Terminal Attack ranked was a mistake. But with mistakes come learnings, and while we believe in TA and saw that many of you played and enjoyed it, it just doesn’t fit our ranked experience or the core of The Finals,” according to official post announcing the fourth season.
Finals also introduced the World Tour — designed to be more fun, less competitive than ranked matches while still offering progression — and that continues into Season 4. The update should also bring a novel tutorial, a novel Battle Pass, and the usual batch of novel cosmetics when it launches next week.
