Scalpers are selling Ryzen 7 9800X3D processors for up to $1,000 – Ryzen 7 9800X3D is not available at major US retailers

Published:

Demand for the all-new AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Zen 5 gaming champion has increased to impressive levels. The modern chip is unavailable at virtually all major retailers in the US and Europe. As a result, eBay scalpers are charging nearly $1,000 for modern Ryzen 7 9800X3D processors.

Ryzen 7 9800X3D units are completely sold out at Newegg, Best Buy, B&H Photo, Walmart and Amazon. The only supplier that technically has some stock is MicroCenter, but the caveat is that only certain locations have it in stock. For example, Tustin, California, Miami, Florida (both Georgia locations), and Chicago, Illinois, to name a few, have the 9800X3D in stock, but many others such as Dallas, Houston, Texas, Flushing, Yonkers, NY and Denver , CO are unavailable at the time of writing.

So it’s no surprise that scalpers take full advantage of the 9800X3D’s low resources. You’ll find 9800X3D models on eBay for $999, with most of them selling for around $750, which is still a whopping 56% more than the MSRP.

The supply situation is so bad that Newegg posted an X update stating that another shipment will be arriving soon and will be restocked as soon as possible. The low supply of Ryzen 7 9800X3D is not circumscribed to the US market. The processor is also unavailable in various European countries.

It’s understandable why everyone wants the Ryzen 7 9800X3D right now. It provides a significant raise in gaming performance compared to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and outperforms the latest Intel Core Ultra 200S processors (codenamed Arrow Lake).

Our review found that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D outperformed its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, by an impressive 14.7%. It was absolute carnage compared to equivalent Intel chips, with the 9800X3D outperforming the Core i9-14900K by a whopping 42% and the all-new Core Ultra 9 285K outperforming the all-new Core Ultra 9 285K by a staggering 60%.

While the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is out of stock, we don’t recommend paying the prices for the processor. As far as we know, there is no shortage of chips. The processor is selling so well that many retailers are out of stock, but should restock it soon. So, a little patience will save you a lot of money and prevent scalping practices.
