Say hello to our Randomizer!

Published:

Hello everyone!

Did you know that natural elements on your lands will be, quite literally, unique? We mentioned this a few months ago when presenting the ecology of the First Settlers. And it’s all thanks to the tool we have been developing over recent months. Now that the tool is ready, we would like to officially introduce it to you: say hello to our randomizer!

The randomizer allows us to create infinite number every natural element of the world: from tiny grass and clover fields to trees and even giant, monstrous stones. We can set any number of random parameters, making it a very powerful tool to give Continuum World biomes uniqueness and variety: differences in scale, position, color palette, shapes, extension area, appearance of tiny details (check for example the tiny redwood mushrooms at the bottom), and much more.

Many natural elements, especially the more intricate ones, were designed from the very beginning with this tool in mind; were created by assembling many elementswhich we can exploit very well using randomizer. Taking the skull below as an example, you can see that not only is the skull divided into pieces, but there are also many random tiny details, such as shadows on the skull, the gem inside, teeth, yellow gems, or plant roots.

Each element of Continuum World will be (somewhat) unique.

In addition to diversity, the randomizer it may also be partially selectivewhich is a very fascinating feature for us. This means that depending on e.g richness of the biomewe can choose which specific spectrum randomizer plays out: the natural element will still be unique and random, but not completely, creating a particular, randomly generated aesthetic. For example, in a opulent grassland biome, fields may be thicker and larger compared to a regular grassland biome, so we can define this in the tool; but other variables such as colors, scale, shapes and other details in the meadows can still be left random.

Finally, this tool could be used for other elements of the world, not just natural elements, even though that is its main purpose. Now that the tool is ready, we can start playing with it during the rest of development, so it’s great to finally have it with us: who knows, maybe in the future buildings will be able to have visually unique elements as well?

We are very joyful to finally present randomizer to you. Please let us know what you think about this and of course what crazy app ideas come to your mind. We’re always pleased to hear your opinion.

That’s it for today, thank you!
