Today, Amazon dropped the price of the recently released one Unicorn Overload Nintendo Switch game by 50%. It’s currently on sale for $30. PS5 and Xbox copies are also on sale, but only by 33% ($39.99). If you have a Nintendo Switch, this is the best copy to get; it runs very smoothly even on the Switch’s dated hardware, and the gameplay works really well on a handheld device.
Unicorn Overlord (Nintendo Switch) for $30
Unicorn Overlord is an outstanding tactical fantasy strategy game created by Atlus and Vanillaware. If you like games like Final Fantasy Tactics or Fire Emblem, you’re in for a real treat. I have spent over 100 hours playing this game myself and it is definitely one of my favorite games of all time. The only thing I can complain about is that it’s a pity it wasn’t released on PC. Officially, IGN gave Unicorn Overload an “Amazing” rating of 9/10. You can read our Unicorn Overload review to see why it’s one of the best console strategy games in recent history. Here’s reviewer Eric Zalewski’s final verdict:
“Reflecting on the incredibly diverse and incredibly artistic world I explored during my 45-hour journey, any issues I had with Unicorn Overlord seemed like nothing more than minor things to me. The tactical combat system is unique and convoluted, yet uncomplicated to understand, skillfully combining multi-player mechanics with astute novel additions. The fascinating terrain on the continent of Fevrith makes each fight unique, and some of the best map tricks I’ve seen in any strategy RPG are Told through the eyes of a diverse and artistic cast, the trope-laden fantasy tale is elevated in a way that a more conventional storytelling style couldn’t deliver. The shorter, more personal stories do a great job of supporting the loop of exploration and liberation that left me begging for one more story to be told, one more city to be rebuilt, one more battle to be fought.
I’ve spent over 100 hours in the game myself. In my opinion, it’s one of the best RTS games I’ve ever played. The only thing I can find fault with is that it’s a shame it wasn’t released on PC as well.
