The Lenovo Legion Go is a portable Windows gaming PC powered by an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU with Radeon graphics and 16GB of RAM, the same configuration found in the $700 Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme. However, it has a larger and sharper 8.8-inch IPS touchscreen with a 2560 x 1600 144Hz resolution and detachable controllers like the Nintendo Switch. Because Legion Go runs on Windows 11, it works with most PC gaming clients, including Steam, Origin, Ubisoft, Epic Games, Genshin Impact, Battle.net, and more.
In her review of the Lenovo Legion Go, Jacqueline Thomas wrote that “it is easily the best portable gaming PC on the market today in terms of screen size, power and USB-C port placement, but there are some caveats. It’s absolutely huge, and the 1600p resolution is more than even this powerful processor can handle. This means you’ll have to spend some time tinkering with – and especially lowering – the quality settings to ensure your games run properly. Even then, battery life is short. great, and of course you’re paying a premium over Steam Deck OLED for the larger display, full Windows 11 license, and extra performance. But if you like the idea of the Switch being able to remove the controllers, prop up the screen on a sturdy kickstand, sit back and enjoy? This is something for you.
If you decide to go with the Legion Go, we highly recommend purchasing a portable power bank for longer trips and a Micro SD card if you think you’ll run out of space even with 1TB of storage. Check out our Asus Rog Ally review and Steam Deck review if you’re still undecided on which system to choose. We compared the Steam Deck with the ROG Ally, and while the Legion Go was not mentioned, the article gives a good idea of the main differences between Steam and Windows-based portable gaming devices.
