Saber Interactive is working on an action RPG set in the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe

Published:

The studio confirmed today that Saber Interactive is working on a mainline game set in the Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra universes. The fresh game will be a triple A action RPG set in the same universe, but will not follow Aang or Korra. Instead, this game will be set thousands of years before any of their stories, introducing a fresh Avatar that hasn’t been seen in the series.

“We know loyal fans Avatar: The Last Airbender has been looking forward to more stories that will introduce them to the series’ universe, and with the game we can expand the world-building possibilities and allow fans to experience new content in a completely immersive way.” said Doug Rosen, vice president of gaming and emerging media at Paramount. “Saber Interactive has a proven track record of bringing games based on IP to life, and we are excited to co-finance this AAA title with them and give fans the opportunity to experience this world first-hand.”

“At Saber, we are all true fans of the intellectual property we work with,” said Josh Austin, director of intellectual property development and licensing at Saber Interactive. “Our team members are some of the most dedicated and passionate creators on the market, and it is an honor to join forces with them Avatar Studios and Paramount Games for further expansion Avatar The Legends universe in video games. This unique co-financing structure is the result of our ever-expanding relationship with Paramount, which began over a decade ago with WWZ, and we look forward to everything that is on the horizon.”

Saber Interactive will work with Avatar Studios to create a story and world that will fit the lore already established by both series and will build on the familiar story pattern of the Avatar trying to master all four elements. The game’s description also seems to suggest that there will be choices that will impact the story and that this Avatar will also have his own group of companions, much like Aang and Korra. No platform or release date has been confirmed yet.
