Rocksteady Studios has reportedly laid off several employees following the disastrous launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Anonymous employees said Eurogamer that Rocksteady’s quality assurance team was reduced from 33 members to 15 due to impoverished sales of Suicide Squad (which cost owner Warner Bros. Discovery $200 million in lost revenue) were quoted directly.
Rocksteady management has reportedly admitted that product quality will suffer as a result of the layoffs, as quality assurance testers struggle to maintain standards for a team that has once doubled in size.
The 18 employees affected reportedly included junior staff and experienced team members who had worked at the studio for more than five years. IGN has reached out to Warner Bros. Discovery for comment.
Suicide Squad debuted in January 2024 as a live-service game starring the likes of Harley Quinn and Deadshot. Problems arose almost immediately, as players who paid more to play early were kicked out of the game after an hour as Rocksteady battled a bug.
It was the first of many frustrations for fans, and Suicide Squad underperformed at the box office, which Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav called a disappointment.
Its reception from critics was equally impoverished, with our 5/10 review, IGN stating, “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a repetitive and bland shooter-cum-collector that, despite an engaging story, never remains fun for long enough.”
