Journalist Harley Leger is on the way to the city to take a job at Rosewater Post, a tiny but competitive newspaper who wants to expand his reach. Her first task is to conduct an interview with a gentleman Jake Ackerman, a show of the Wild West, who came to the city, but her commitment with him quickly spirally in search of treasures that takes her, Jake, Jake and their Ragtag, the Misfits team throughout the whole of the west.

The West, in Rosewater, is slightly different than you remember: society is taking place before the catastrophic consequences of recent achievements in the field of “etherity”, continuing to set the story of Steampunk-Alternate from its predecessor Rosewater Lamplight City. This is not a west ruled by lonely men on horses and shooting Quickdraw, where it is the most tough and fastest, which comes out alive, but one immersed in the sense of intrigue and mystery, which pulls the species away from his bloody roots.

As a journalist, Harley is a great hero of this role. Instead of a revolver, her weapon is curiosity, stubbornness and nose of truth; Instead of hunting gold, he hunts for history.

Rosewater has the habit of taking western staples and give them some return. Instead of a gloomy journey to Silent Loner Rosewater is a talking journey of Harley and, it seems, everyone else who can find: although Jake and his talented assistant Danny Luo, a charming rebel Filomeno Marquez (briefly), tender aspiring Doctor Nadine Redbird and their caravan driver, strenuous Lola Johnson. Most of the game takes place in the Lola wagon when they go to El Presidio, meeting settlers, travelers, bandits, merchants, refugees, cheaters and workers.

There is not a single time that drives, focusing on its goal. Instead, they stop talking, helping and poke. Every time. In the event of an absolute pursuit of justice or gold, rose water is relaxed to such an extent that it feels aimless.

The journey itself is an extended vignette series, differing in very deep and complexity. Some smaller events are random and can be found at any time in history or completely skipped. Others are convoluted scenes from SCI with more captivating puzzles and focusing on accompanying characters, in which Harley not only conducts his own search, but directed and helps others, learning about them at the same time when everyone learns about modern people and places they face.

It is cute when Danny cheats on a false mental or pretend Lola that she is not detained with a neglected puppy of the traveler, and sometimes these scenes will lead to quite intensive accompanying interactions, as in the scene where Phil is part of their former friends who became refugees because of the elections he made.

As the journey progresses, puzzles become more complicated – as in all good adventure games led me to complete frustration to find out that the obvious answer was under my nose all the time – but in general they require enough work to remain involved without losing attention. I had a great time with the lateral history of the retired maritime captain, whose house withdraws during a storm: with many layered smaller puzzles in a narrow area focused on the background of one form, creates the climax of the subordinate thread-a highly silly, but quite charming scenario that embraces everyone from the past of the captain-in honor snooping.

Minigras are less fun, which mainly waste time until Harley is able to determine that he is not very good at what he is trying to do and pass it on to a more talented companion. Simple, such as fishing, they are forgiving (move the mouse in the opposite direction that the fish pulls), but the less said about Harley’s attempts in shooting, the better (click what is moving quickly about my God, so rapid!). Similarly, the map mechanic introduced behind schedule in the game seems dispersing and is almost illegible due to the simplicity of the style of art. Fortunately, these detours do not appear too often.

Rose water is baked in the sun and restless. Lack of urgency suits Harley, whose parched humor and a sense of general competence carries most of the game. Although the group is in situations from time to time bizarre or unusual-in the laboratory of a crazy scientist, ragged with a patrolling military party, an ambush by psedo-corners or imprisoned over too genial religious cultures-Harley always keeps her peace. The game shines especially in its compact moments of narrative and rarely sending a diary, which contains the best Rosewater writing and gives an amazing sense of the atmosphere of interpretation of the West.

Of course, radiant lethargy cannot last. The narrowing is concentration when rose water approaches the culmination and a sense of claustrophobia after returning to urban planning when the group is approaching El Presidio. My anxiety increased next to the character; It seems that the eyes of the world have returned to us. This is a clear contrast with the rest of the game, in which I always had the current feeling that the world was left, that great events of history have already happened, and that the places and people around which Harley do not know the special future, but instead they came from this concealed past.

Mit of the West, in rose water, is less expansionism and settlement, and more shelter. Rosewater does not ignore the problematic history of the Western species – in fact it spends a lot of time with the consequences of imperialist brutality towards native tribes and the modern Spanish – but finds most of his empathy in stories other than blood spilled.

Wherever Harley and her companions go away, they find people who are trying to come up with how to live. If Rosewater buys one west myth more than anything else, it is: the West in Rosewater is the future, unexplored, undefined, for those who come to it and for those who are already there.

That is why it seems well that Harley can equip his journey into a notebook, not a gun. The treasure they decided to hunt is far from his origin: the fortune of a scientist hiding from the scandal after a disaster in the city far, where some of these characters could be once, but they are no longer. Without a race for gold or hunting for a killer, there is time to look for her future and history, and she helped her comrades and people whom she meets on the way, look for the same.

It is suitable for a game such as Rosewater and what he is trying to be: the West version we know, but not quite.
