Times have changed since I was begging my mother to buy me the Avermedia capture card because it was the only one that would work without a dedicated computer. PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PCS (assuming you have Windows) all have built -in DVR and all are rather good. This meant that for a free artist or simply someone who wants to show off the clips, they are almost completely unnecessary.
To keep up with this changing market, there are now a lot of unique capture card options. Ten years ago, the very possibility of recording was fine, but now such as Elgato and Avermedia offer a proposal to potential buyers: one that can overcome the built -in DVR.
In such as the live duo, this means the ability to send many input data at the same time. In the case of Avermedia Elite Go GC313PRO, its sales point is the fact that it can be used to record hand -handed computers for gaming (and can also charge them). Even people without a central trick will ensure a stronger capture of the console or simply soften the part of the load that built -in capture software can be the performance of the game platform.
But nothing means you need it. The function of the Xbox game belt can easily and quickly record on 1080p, and you can even utilize it with reverse power to record a clip that you came across twenty seconds ago. Then, if you want 4K, GPU drivers or free software, such as a studio, can do it. System registration can tax and then stream in 4K, so some streamers choose a secondary computer for streaming. In this case, there is a great justification for the PC capture card. However, if you are not so dedicated and you have a decent powerful platform, the built -in software will be fine.
Elgato 4K S Specifications
The largest sales of the average person who now wants to make movies is that the capture cards are great to utilize consoles. The fact that most of the interception cards interact with computers means that you can stream from PS5 to a computer, run it through the software cover, such as OBS, and have a real, true interactivity and value of production in the stream.
So Elgato 4K S offers taste like Elgato 4K xWith its 4K capture and intuitive software in a cheaper price range and does it well. 4K X is equipped with a higher FPS bandwidth and recording, and offers HDMI 2.1 instead of HDMI 2, but it is also almost $ 100 more.
Elgato 4K S is very straightforward to configure. The box is equipped with a braided USB Type-C and a plaited HDMI cable. As for We/O, 4K S has an HDMI output, input and USB Type-C for recording data on the platform, followed by 3.5 mm sockets. Just connect the console or computer to the box, and the other end went to the recording/streaming set and you are ready. Elgato’s own software can display your game or record material, but you can also send them straight to other companies, such as Stu Stu.
4K S is a very airy device by just 90 g. In fact, it is so airy that I set my HDMI cable so that its weight does not give the box at a comical angle. In addition, setting it is an intuitive process, the connection of which takes no more than a few minutes.
Recently, I fell to the boundaries of the DVR Console, trying to get the material from Donkey Kong Banananza on Nintendo Switch 2. Recording only 30 seconds at once means that if you want a minute or two games, you must tactically combine clips and hope it will be liquid. An ideal case for intercepting device.
However, for the first time I connected Elgato to Nintendo Switch 2, the color looked like and saturated. In a rather classic movement, disconnecting it and re -connecting fixed my problem, and since then I had no again. Elgato 4K S not only solved my problem with the built -in function of capturing Switch 2, but made it look better.
Comparing textures, Elgato records a higher maximum resolution (4K vs 1080p), and certainly shows up in an intercepted recording. The difference, however, is not as substantial as I expected, and partly depends on the fact that Nintendo Switch 2 has a very good (though quite constrained) registration function.
If you want to stream with Nintendo Switch 2, the interception card is absolutely necessary because switch 2 has no such functionality. The same cannot be said about the other two main consoles.
Grab the headphone set and controller, and have a sufficiently powerful internet connection, and you are ready to stream to PS5 or Xbox Series X. You can simultaneously simulate to Twitch and YouTube without recretion from another platform, but it is certainly good enough if you are associated with one platform.
You can technically record 4K on PlayStation, but the console does not play too nicely. It forces clips to register in Webm, and you need to manually record and change to 4K in the settings, which means that you cannot record with retrospective power in 4K.
To display these 4K clips on PS5, you need to close open applications or games. With Elgato, everything is slightly simpler and comparing both sets of material with ICAT NVIDIA (tool for image comparison analysis)They look almost identical to me. Elgato is slightly brighter, and PS5 feels a little deeper, but for most they will look the same.
Passhrough is so good that I opened the Elgato application and play console games on my computer.
So you can record 4K on PS5 without an intercepting card with some effort. However, if you want to stream, add a webcam and go from stage to the stage, you will still want to capture this card. Regardless of which device I have connected to, Elgato 4K S works very well in passhrough mode. Although the maximum interception is 4K at 60 FPS, 1080p can reach up to 240 FPS in passhrough mode (up to 120 in interception). By placing a computer monitor right next to the TV and comparing these two, both are almost without delay, and I still manage to be all right, as usual in Fortnite.
Passhrough is so good that I opened the Elgato application and I play a few console games on my computer, just because I don’t want to turn on a huge 50-inch TV that I utilize for console games. I played during the killing hours of Floor 3, Donkey Kong Bananza and Clair Obsurpur: Expedition 33 without any problems, and I see that I continue at these moments when my partner wants to utilize the main television for something else.
Elgato software is intuitive and straightforward to utilize if a bit bare. You connect the device, open the application, and now you can record and do screenshots of everything you play. You can adjust the resolution in flight, which is quite useful if you have concerns about storage (the same), and this is connected with the forum Elgato if you encounter any problems.
Buy if …
✅ You want plugins and play: 4K S is very straightforward to configure, and after placing down it does not have to be adapted or changed. You can get streaming in literal minutes (assuming you already have a Twitch account)
✅ You want a decent 4K capture: 160 USD for 4K capturing card certainly seems reasonable when we saw many 1080p options not so far.
Don’t buy if …
❌ You are open to the exchange of Avermedia: Although his software is missing, Avermedia Live Gamer Ultra S GC553Pro is doing everything that 4K S does and more cheaper.
As a result of USD 160, this is a competitive price for a 4K capture card, and I would almost never choose Elgato Game Capture Neo for $ 40 for MSRP. This additional cost for me is worth it for capturing 4K above 1080p and higher FPS passage (with the latter to 60 fps).
In itself, this compact intercepting card sway. It is compact, straightforward to configure, relatively painless and offers good quality recording. It also offers a pass almost instance. However, it is more steep than Avermedia Live Gamer Ultra S GC553Pro, not offering 5.1 at the same time. Considering that the pass is so great, the more addictive offers of the 5.1 sound 5.1 would certainly be welcome, especially when you receive it from GC553Pro for the cheaper.
In IASP, the only reason I could think to put Elgato on GC553Pro is his software or position of its results. I prefer to have USB-C and HDMI ports on one side, like Elgato, but I don’t think I can argue that it is worth $ 10 more.
Both cards capturing discounts in sales, I think it will be tossing the best interception card, but as they stand only a few inches behind the rival. This is probably the best medium -class capture card that you can buy now, but this is still not enough to put it first against inflexible competition.
