The Apex Legends Respawn developer canceled the incubation project this week and dismissed the unknown number of people working on it during this process.
This message was first Submitted by confidential informationAcquiring the concealed LinkedIn post from the former production coordinator, who wrote that “the unannounced incubation project in which I was part of the last year was canceled this week, so I join the group of extremely talented and kind people in the game industry, looking for a new role.”
Ign was able to independently confirm that Respawn canceled the unannounced incubation project. Ign understands it was FPS multiplayer (for which at least one job posts were replaced last year) It turned through the members of the internal team, who previously worked on FPS Star Wars in Respawn, which was canceled last year. IGN can also confirm that many people have been released as a cancellation. Although we are not able to confirm the exact number, it has been characterized as “small” by a source familiar with the project. Ign also identified at least one person related to the project, who explained LinkedIn that their departure was voluntary.
This is a continuous trend of canceled projects, dismissals and restructuring throughout EA, which began in 2023 with the elimination of 50 jobs in BioWare and an unknown number in Codemasters. Culling lasted almost exactly a year ago, when the company released 670 employees and closed many projects, including the aforementioned FPS Star Wars. As part of these cuts, about two dozen employees of the lens lost their jobs. Since then, EA has restructured BioWare, transferring developers to other projects internally and releasing another unknown number of key people.
