Who is Eveline from Resident Evil?
Eveline is a genetically modified human who appears in Winters’ story arc told in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and its sequel, Resident Evil Village. Also known as by her codename E-001, Eveline was developed by The Connections from a seedy mold sample provided by Miranda (yes, that one). It also contains a DNA sample from her deceased daughter Ewa.
Eveline was “born” sometime in the early 21st century, but The Connections artificially aged her to look like a ten-year-old child to suit her purpose as a biological weapon capable of straightforward infiltration. I mean, you’d never expect this sweet little girl to be a literal weapon of mass destruction, right?
However, her work has become a controversial topic in the world of biological weapons and weapons, not only because of the moral gray area of using a child for mass destruction, but also because her ability to end battles through mind control essentially makes time-honored bio-firearms and weapons chemical and nuclear are obsolete. Of course the massive gun companies don’t want that, right?
With groups like Blue Umbrella doing everything they could to track down Eveline and her creators, The Connections decided to hide her in 2014. Agents Alan Droney, and most notably Mia Winters (Resident Evil Ethan’s wife), posed as Eveline’s parents as they escorted her aboard a cargo ship bound for Central America in order to hide her in the second lab. During the journey, Eveline’s obsession with creating the perfect family around her gained momentum, leading her to rebel against her captors when the ship entered a violent hurricane.
Eveline infected the ship with mold, which led to the deaths of many crew members and passengers, including Alan Droney. When the ship finally crashed, Eveline and the newly infected Mia washed ashore on the Dulvey Bayou in Louisiana. Jack Baker soon rescued them and took them back to the family ranch, where Eveline slowly infected the Bakers with mold, one by one, allowing her to control them and force them to become members of her “perfect family”.
But the bakers weren’t enough for Eveline – so she began ordering them to go out and kidnap people in hopes of expanding her family even further. However, without the proper medication, Eveline began to age at an unnaturally rapid rate, and by early 2017, she had assumed the appearance of an eighty-year-old woman and used a wheelchair to maintain her mobility. Starting to sound familiar?
Soon, Ethan Winters arrives in search of his wife Mia – and so begins the events of Resident Evil 7 and the infamous Baker House incident. Of course, good vintage Eveline was never going to go down without a fight – technically, she shares DNA with the mighty Mother Miranda, after all – but you’ll have to play Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil: Village and the Village DLC, Shadow of Rose to get the full picture.
What is Resident Evil Eveline’s personality?
Eveline is an artificially created biological weapon, so it’s safe and sound to say that her personality is complex to determine. However, it undoubtedly shows its colors as bloodthirsty, murderous and manipulative, but sometimes it seems like she doesn’t truly understand the evil nature of her actions. She crosses the line between a real and deeply traumatized newborn girl and a powerful superhuman being, which makes her extremely perilous as her turbulent emotions lead her to attack and apply her powers to control those around her.
However, there is a human side to her as she shows her insecurities and humanity at times. He may be a sentient weapon, but he is also a lonely, orphaned child looking for love and approval. Ultimately, she just wants a loving family to lean on – which is probably where her jealousy towards Ethan’s daughter, Rosemary, comes from. This insecurity is further accentuated by her inability to understand why Mia and Ethan dislike her, as well as her apparent distrust of anyone who claims to be trying to facilitate her.
