The third and final expansion for Remnant 2 is called The Dark Horizon, Gunfire Games studio announced.
The announcement comes a year after the successful launch of the co-op shooter sequel Dark Souls with Guns, with the release scheduled for September 2024.
“Players will return to the necropolis of N’Erud, where they will discover that a strange phenomenon has taken place there,” Gunfire announces.
The Dark Horizon’s September 2024 release date is something of a delay, considering Gunfire has committed to releasing all three DLCs within the first year of Remnant 2’s launch.
“We’ve made the difficult decision to delay the release date of our third DLC so we have more time to deliver the best possible experience you deserve,” Gunfire explains.
“Our goal is for The Dark Horizon to be the most extensive DLC for Remnant 2 yet. Not only have we packed this DLC with more of the Remnant awesomeness you’ve come to expect, but we’re also demanding at work on a brand recent game mode that will be free for everyone and will be revealed soon along with a recent progression system.
“While we are not pleased to delay the release of this DLC – one that you are already looking forward to – we feel very fortunate to see your continued support and loyalty to the Remnant series. The past year has been nothing short of incredible, and we are thrilled that Remnant 2 and its DLC have brought you as much joy as we have enjoyed creating this world for you. That said, we are not done yet, and more news about The Dark Horizon DLC will be coming soon!
“Thank you again for your continued support and for being a vital part of the Remnant family. We are excited about what the future holds and can’t wait to share more adventures with you.”
Remnant 2 was released in July 2023 to great acclaim from players and critics, with sales exceeding million copies in the first week on Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5 and PC. It then beat Diablo 4 as Best-selling game of July in the USBy the end of September 2023, over two million copies had been sold.
IGN Review 9/10 called Remnant 2 “a triumphant sequel that not only reimagines the Soulslike genre as a co-op shooter with looter-shooter elements, but also delivers on that concept perfectly in almost every way.”
With the Remnant 2 DLC coming to a close, thoughts inevitably turn to Gunfire’s next game and a possible Remnant 3.
