Remedy replaces Bowie song from Alan Wake due to ‘licensing’

Ground Control to Major Tom, Remedy Entertainment Removes David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ from Alan Wakeand replacing it with a brand novel original melody. Remedy announced that the song would be removed in a September 10th update, which was required due to “licensing changes.” Too bad!

The novel song is called “Strange Moons” Alan Wake AND Control composer Petri Alanko. Lowland he said in the post on X, the song is “written from the point of view of an astronaut who has a lot of problems” — but he’s come to terms with that. He adapted the song from a piece of music originally associated with the cut Alan Wake level that was removed “well before release.” The song doesn’t appear to be available online yet, but Polygon has reached out to Remedy for more information.

This time Remedy’s path is a relief for the future Alan Wake players – don’t drag anything down like it was in 2017. Alan Wake and what is especially critical, this year thanks to Yager Development Spec ops: Line. 2K Games announced that the game was pulled due to licensing issues.

Of course, it’s still melancholy to see Bowie’s song go — it was a memorable touchstone that closed out the first Alan Wake game. There are very few games where people actually remember what was in the credits. Still, Remedy took the best possible path forward by opting to replace the song. Alan Wake fans get novel music!
