During One Six Indie Showcase 2024 we could see a trailer for a brand up-to-date expansion for the game Rain World. This download add-on, Observerlooks to take players into uncharted territory with Slugcat’s up-to-date adventure, and fans want the game to go as far as possible.
Sharp-eyed fans spotted a few key details in the trailer Rain World‘S Observer DLC, including no Iterators, walking snails, and some fresh-looking animated backgrounds that hint at up-to-date environments. The franchise is known for its incredibly intricate ecosystem that comes together as you explore, with each environment somehow affecting the others. But fans want something that delves deep into the DLC. A region or regions that are cut from what we’ve seen before.
Where are the Iterators?
Long before the DLC trailer was released, Rain World fans of the game subreddit talked about what they expect from it. User ANBpokeball sums up what many other fans are looking forward to. “Exploring new regions, seeing new creatures, meeting Slugcats other than the protagonist, and the chance to meet one of the iterators other than Five Pebbles or Looks To The Moon.”
That would be brilliant. Iterators are huge entities that house entire ecosystems. They are also said to create rain, which gives Rain World its name. In the base game and other downloadable add-ons, you can see other Iterators in the distance when you reach the top of one, as high as you can.
The featured image in this article shows Slugcat at this point, as well as the shocking lack of Iterators. This suggests that Observer DLC may take place in a different time, dimension, or region independent of the rest of the series.
We can actually look at Akupara gaming site for DLC for some clarity here. “Journey onward to something, somewhere you’ve only glimpsed. When the world beneath your feet cracks and falls apart, will you hold on to everything you once knew? Or plunge into the unknown?”
I suggest we’ll be somewhere in Rain World series we never got a chance to visit. Part of what makes the franchise so intriguing and engaging is its intricate ecosystem, where you sneak, run, and fight your way through multiple playthroughs.
From what I hear, I would say we are heading towards a droughty place where the earth cracks and crumbles away from the Iterator. It may reveal the past of the planet beneath the earth’s crust and away from the fairly familiar territories we knew around these huge machines. Playing Animal well earlier this year I couldn’t wait to play as another creature delving into the depths.
Fans want something up-to-date, and the trailer and synopsis certainly make it seem like that’s what we’re getting. We’ll have to wait until March 28, 2025 to find out for sure, but if you’re up-to-date to the series, that should be more than enough time to catch up and find out everything you need to know before the premiere. Observer DLC Add-ons.
