- PUBG Mobile is coming to the cloud!
- The modern version of the popular cloud battle royale game is currently available on cushioned release in the US and Malaysia
- It allows you to play without downloading or running any local programs
Cloud gaming seems to be all the rage these days because you can play in high resolution virtually anywhere and on any device. This is evidenced by Xbox’s modern “This is an Xbox” ad campaign, but Krafton is taking an intriguing modern tactic with the debut of PUBG Mobile Cloud.
Standalone download on Google Play, PUBG Mobile Cloud it markets itself as a version without the hardware limitations, overheating issues, or other technical limitations you might expect. It’s currently in cushioned launch in the US and Malaysia, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it rolls out to the rest of the world soon.
And for those of you who have cozy rocks under which you live, cloud gaming is essentially playing on a remote server, without downloading or running any real programs on your device. Basically something else does all the legwork. What does this mean for PUBG?
Wider reach
This is an intriguing move because one of the key benefits and advantages of cloud gaming is that it is usually part of a larger subscription or service. However, PUBG Mobile Cloud appears to be a standalone experience that can be enjoyed by an even wider group of players.
The only problem I see is that the PUBG Mobile Cloud website still lists quite a wide range of requirements. However, I think that the main recipients of something like this would be players whose phones cannot support the popular Battle Royale mode.
Will he find a place? I bet there must be some niche for this, but I’ll be damned if I think what.
