PS5 Pro technical seminar reveals up-to-date details about the console

Published:

It was great to see the premiere PlayStation 5Pro console a few weeks ago. For those interested in detailed technical aspects of PS5 Pro, we have prepared a video describing bits and bytes for console: how it all came to be, how it works and why it’s the first step in an invigorating up-to-date journey for gamers. You can watch below!

Note: The video below focuses on the technology behind PS5 Pro and does not contain any up-to-date game announcements or up-to-date gameplay footage.

In the presentation, you’ll learn what the word “advanced” in “Advanced Ray Tracing” actually means, what the difference is between FLOPS and TOPS, and some of the challenges in developing the powerful machine learning hardware needed for PSSR – AI-based scaling available in PS5 Pro.

At the end of the presentation, I also do something we don’t usually do at SIE – I touch on how the learnings we’ve learned on PS5 Pro will fuel our future ambitions in the never-ending quest to push the boundaries of gaming. AMD has been a fantastic SIE partner for many years, and I’m proud to announce that we’ve entered into a deeper collaboration, focusing on machine learning-based technology for graphics and gameplay. Both AMD and SIE share many of the same goals in growing the video gaming medium. Watch the presentation to learn more about this invigorating plan!

We also organized an encore presentation of this talk to an audience that included journalists from Digital Foundry, IGN and Wccftech. Look out for their coverage and more discussion on RDNA, ray tracing, and machine learning.
